When the clutch pedal is depressed there is a metallic shrieking sound which goes away when the pedal is let out. the clutch is not slipping and gear changes are smooth except for the sound. there is fluid in the clutch reservoir, but it is below the max line.
Yeah, sounds like the throw out bearing. easy fix . just time consuming. When I put in my racing clutch on my GT , I was so suprised how easy the bearing was to replace. hardest part is taking out the transmission , starter bolts and the top of bell housing bolts were a pain. but once past that, its a breeze.
Probably a throw-out bearing, also called a clutch release bearing. It will eventually have to be replaced, and sooner better than later. If it freezes up completely, you can do some damage to the clutch assembly or release arm.
