Question about Celestron Advanced C102-HD (241 x 102mm) Telescope

1 Answer

CG4 Drive controller

Hi,
Hand controller unit dropped form my hand with no visual damages seen from out side. But it no more drives the telescope though while connecting with the battery pack the middle light (supposed to be in green during sidreal movement) is on in yellow mode.By touching the motor I feel the pulse that the controller delivers to the motor but very unfortunately it is not driving the telescope. Can you provide the circuit diagram? I've purchased this telescope last year from Adorama and brought in India this year.

I have a DS-2000 Series Refracting telescope, it will automatically go up and down with the hand held computer, but will not move side to side.

You DID tighten the clutches-- and you do have fresh batteries in the scope?

Either the hand controller buttons are broken or you have some kind of damage inside the scope base-- or a blown circuit board on that motor.

Is there an user friendlier hand controller available for the Ultima 2000? Does the wedge make much of a difference?

The wedge is only used if you take astro-photos. You do not need it for visual observing.

Your problem may not be the motor?

Is this a 497 hand controller? If it is check the TELESCOPE TYPE in the controller. It should read ETX125. You cannot just switch controllers. The controller has been TRAINED for the other scope.

To switch it you must do a RESET, Calibrate motors and then train the drives. These "values" are stored inside the hand controller. If you move it to another type of Meade telescope you must RESET and do Calibrate sensors and Training again.

The dis-assembly pictures are located on the Mighty ETX web site here:

Celestron Nexstar 114gt telescope, hand controller lights up only

Do you have a fresh set of batteries in the scope? Better to use an outside 12 volt power pack with the Celestron 12 volt "cigarette" lighter cable.

This can be three things:

Low power

Bad cable from hand controller to scope.

Or a broken hand controller

Try fresh batteries first.

The hand held unit lights up when turned on, and the telescope "homes" but the LED does not show anything. The voice speaks "Bushnell Northstar" but very quietly. The telescope can be moved by the bottom 4...

Can you reverse the cable end to the hand controller-- a bad cable can cause this. Also low power supply, depleted batteries can also cause this.

Return the hand controller for replacement if batteries and or a new cable do not fix this.

Celestron CPC 800 frozen display in the Hand Controller

I've seen a couple of things cause this problem. Both can probably be fixed by you.

The first thing to try is to look at your power connector on the telescope. You'll see a pin sticking up with a split in the middle. Take a small knife or screwdriver and very gently pry that **** slightly apart. I've seen where that compresses and it becomes intermittent.

The other thing I've seen is an intermittent connection between the hand controller and telescope. This can happen on the controller end or telescope end. The AUX ports will work for the hand controller too. Try it in those ports and see if things improve.

If they don't, then you could have a loose connector on the hand controller. Mine was bad enough that if I wiggled it the controller would either go blank or lock up. I fixed mine by getting a telephone crimp tool and crimping it. It's worked fine since then.

You may also wish to check out the CPC group on Yahoo Groups.

Good luck!

Meade autostar hand unit fails after 2 seconds changed hand units

You damaged the circuits inside the hand controller-- unless you are an electronics whiz these cannot be repaired.

However you can find them for sale directly from Meade and on Ebay (used) usually for about $80.

Hand controller not working

You have broken something inside the hand controller-- the computer is in the hand controller NOT in the telescope. Contact Celestron for a replacement hand controller or advice.
