There are a couple of things that can cause this. One is a corrupted normal.dot template, one is a corrupted printer driver, and the other would be some sort of third party add-ins. So let's start with the simplest to try and that is replacing the normal.dot template.

Click on Start, go to Search, and in the Search box type normal.dot. There should be a search option that you can check for 'search hidden files', make sure that is checked. If it does not find it, try searching for *.dot. It may be hard to find because it is a hidden file. You may have to go into folder options and be sure "show hidden files" is checked. Whenever you find normal.dot, rename it old.dot and restart your computer. Open Word and it will create a new normal.dot template, which is what Word uses as a default blank document.

If that does not work, read this article about a third party add-in that can cause this issue:

I'm trying to run my F-22 CD on my Vista Home OS. I have a DOSBox which runs downloaded DOS programs, but doesn't like to work with CDs. I mount my E Drive the way I'm supposed to: Mount e e:/ -t cdrom...

Try with the config file. See if you have enough memory there. Also, some games "don't like" having a cdrom unit other than D, try mounting E as "mount e d:\"

Have a cannon lide 200. Mp Navigator gives "insufficient memory" error on launch.

There are a couple of reasons this can happen. 1) Do you have other TWAIN scanner drivers installed, remove the other scanners files from the C:\Windows\TWAIN_32\ (cut and paste the other folders into the C:\Windows\ directory.) Depending on your OS, you may need to click Yes for permission to move the file (Administrator). Start in My Computer (or Computer), double click (or single click) on C: (Local Disk), then scroll down to the Windows folder and double click (or single click) and then repeat for the TWAIN_32 folder and right click on the folder you need to remove (cut). Hit the back arrow and right click to find the Paste command.

2) How much memory do you have on your computer? How many other programs were running at the time? What is the Page File size (for Windows)? Check that you have sufficient memory to run the MP Navigator. Windows tends to be a free memory hog and doesn't release memory cleanly sometimes.

I hope this helps.

I have a cannon 160 printer but when I click on it, the screen to ask about scanning or print doesn't show.

I have a mp470. Try this before the driver download. Click Start, click all programs, select Canon utilities, select mp navigator, click on mp navigator again. On my pc this opens a window where I can select Scan/import from the platen or from a memory card. If this does not work here is a link to Canon to get your drivers. Note: turn off and uninstall your MP160 before installing the new drivers. Select your operating system from the list and select your desired drivers.

I also have a mp470. Try this before the driver download. Click Start, click all programs, select Canon utilities, select mp navigator, click on mp navigator again. On my pc this opens a window where I can select Scan/import from the platen or from a memory card. If this does not work here is a link to Canon to get your drivers. Insufficient memory on canan mx310

I have for steps for fix this issue please check it

If you have a Canon Pixma and you cannot scan because of "insufficient memory", then try this:
go into My Pictures -> MP Navigator
Then delete all the dated folders in there. They are the past scans you have done, they eat up your memory.

or you can uninstall and reinstall the printer driver also and you can configure the virtual memory.

OR

Adding twain_32.dll to the Windowsfolder solved the problem. For people who don't want to search for it go on the link
