Whirlpool Calypso washer

Hi My washer 'whines' and does not begin the cycle after filling with water. It does agitate and spin when I set it on the 'Rinse and Spin' cycle, but the time remaining never begins to count down.

Can you help?

thanks, paige

Sorry Paige, just got back from vacation. For a whining noise, I will give you the solution that you can perform yourself without specialized tools.

Often there is a whining noise associated with pump (it turns a different direction depending on the point in the cycle. Let's check for a restricted (would still let water drain) or frozen pump.

Pull the washer forward and then tilt the top back so the washer is leaning against the wall about a 45 degree angle (when you get the right angle the washer will balance against the wall by itself without you having to hold it. Now remove the 3 5/16 screws from the front of the bottom panel. On the right hand side, follow the 2 short black hoses. They connect to your pump.

On a old style pump, there are two clips you can snap off and the pump will drop down. New style pump, there are 4 #20 torx screws that have to come out. HOWEVER, there is always water inside these hoses. Make sure you have an area that water can easily be contained, a LOT of towels, or just disconnect it and take it outside. First try taking the black drain hose on the back and lowering it from the hole in the wall into a container at ground height. This can start a siphon that will get most of the water out. This works really well if you have a wet/dry shopvac to attach to the end of it. If this doesn't work, then you will have to disconnect the black hoses at the pump to let the water out. If the pump has no debris and can move freely, then it's time for a service person. These washers use specialized tools to work on some parts ofthem.

Won't finish the final spin

Hi there,

When the cycle doesn't advance, it's probably the timer or a cold-water supply problem:

It's the timer, if your washing machine fills with water and begins agitating, but the timer never advances--or if the washer is in a spin cycle and the timer won't advance. Then you need to replace the timer.

It may be a cold-water supply problem, if the washing machine fills with water, agitates, drains, and spins, but then doesn't fill with rinse water. See There's no cold water.

Post further comments for more information ....

Good Luck!!

Thanks

Stuck in spin

Hi!

If the Washer is stuck in spin then either the timer or a cold-water supply problem is causing this :
It's the timer, if your washing machine fills with water and begins agitating, but the timer never advances--or if the washer is in a spin cycle and the timer won't advance, then you need to replace the timer.
It may be a cold-water supply problem, if the washing machine fills with water, agitates, drains, and spins, but then doesn't fill with rinse water. See There's no cold water

Washer calypso

Unplug your machine for 5 min then turn on spin to remove water. If water won't go you have a bad water pump. Code FL refers to a low water flow problem ( won't fill fast enough ) or old water still in tub.
Next you need to turn off the water ot the unit and remove the water lines. Look into the water inlets on the washer to see if the dirt screens are clogged and not letting water into you unit at a fast enough pace.
Your unit has a water level sensor and should agitate when full, but I believe your machine might be "timing out" i.e. not filling as fast as your unit expects so even though it doesn't fill all the way it begins agitating because it has taken too long to fill. Good Luck!
