Question about Compaq Presario 700 470024-192 Notebook

Windows Vista with Compaq C770

I consider buying Compaq Presario C770ED (1,73 Ghz, 3072MB DDR2).

Does anybody know if it is fast enough with Vista?

Thanks for your help.

    Hey John,

Thanks for your answer, no it is not for gaming.

I understood that for Vista ( no matter for what kind of use) a minimum of 2 gig is needed, was not sure if this was about the processor (1,7 Ghz) or for RAM (3 Gb)

    Bye Juul

Hey Zakraf, i sell laptops all the time.
The spec you have quoted above would provide a good speed running vista as long as you aint playing games.
if its for gaming i would stick with a desktop.
Hope it answers the question,,

All the best

being honest, vista is slightly slower than xp, but alot better operating system in my opionon, specs we usually sell are about 1.7ghz with 1gb memory and they run fine, memory is cheap to add to the later, like 20-30 pounds for another gb, depending on how many slots in the laptop,

the faster the processor the better, but i wouldnt spend a fortune on a laptop, i find most people keep them for 3 years on average, either too slow or they have broken it by then..

i hope this helps but if u have anymore questions feel free to ask...

    All the best

Pentium 1.80 or pentium 2.8..I just recently got hired and I was told I need Pentium (4) 2.8 GHz or equivalent. I have Pentium 1.80 GHz (the numbers are confusing me once again)...thank you!

The Compaq Presario SR5410F has a dual core processor running at 1.80 GHZ
Dual core means that it is actually two processors running at that speed so you easily pass the Pentium 4 2.8 benchmark as shown in this table. the E2160 processor is not shown but the E2180 is close enough for you to get the idea compared with the lowly P4 2.8

On this same laptop, my Presario C501, I want to know what the maximum amount of RAM I can buy and install to make it the best it can be. Right now it is, as purchased, and it has a Celron M processor with...

usually like this:
Details of - COMPAQ PRESARIO Laptop - Celeron 1.7 Ghz - C501
Main Features :
  • Intel Celeron- M 420 (1.73 GHz)
  • Intel 940GML Chipset
  • 1 MB L2 Cache
  • 256MB DDR2
  • 80 GB HDD
  • 24X CDRW/DVD Combo drive
  • 15.4" Widescreen WXGA TFT BrightView
  • Altec Lansing Stereo Speakers
  • 56K Modem
  • Integrated Wireless LAN 802.11 b/g
  • LiIon Battery
  • TouchPad
  • S-Video TV Out
  • 2 USB 2.0
You cand put extra memory until 2 GB RAM but i see no use of it.
1GB RAM work excellent under Winxp
Also, you can get a better hard drive (160 GB).

Laptops are usless for playing games. They may play some low quality games but there is really nothing you can do to upgrade a laptop to make it suitable for playing games. If you are planning on playing PC Games, buy a good Desktop Computer.
