I have an HP laptop g62-340us, and somehow my wireless won't turn on, when i try to turn it on (on the f keys) It won't turn on it says "Disabled" Why is this happening? I think tis just my laptop not the router because my Macbook is working perfectly fine. Why is this happening? I tried taking out the battery, turning off the computer, install the updates for the router, attempting to fix problem thing and it wouldn't work. Nothing work? Why is this happening?

1. You possibly may have the IP address that need to be "renewed.
2. Go to the control panel then to network then check the properties of the TCP/IP protocol properties to see if you have it set to "obtain an ip automatically"
also see if you have " DNS to obtain automatically".
3.Unplug the Ethernet cord for about 30 seconds the connect it back to the Ethernet port.
4. check to see if you have a connection to the internet.
5. call your ISP to see if you line has had any disconnects or maintenance.
6. check the router status ( this will tell you if you have disconnected from the ISP 's server and need a possible reset .
7. Do a ipconfig /all to see if you have the "media disconnect" error > this is done by going to the command prompt and typing "cmd" enter then you DOS prompt will show.
8. check you status lights on the router to give this information to the tech when calling your ISP to walk you through a reset or check the connection on the DSL/ CABLE line.
I hope this helps. Have a great day!

Enable fn key

The fn key is usually on the lower left side of the keyboard and is a different color (blue) lettering. You need to press that + the F# key with a wireless icon.

Remove drivers. Restart. Reinstall drivers. Restart. Check if wireless is enabled in BIOS. Be sure there is no button on the laptop to turn the wireless on.

Wireless was somehow turned off on lab

There's either a physical switch on the laptop or a key that has a wifi symbol on it. Also try enabling wireless adapter in windows.

How to switch on wlan ?

Hi,

You can turn ON the WLAN in two ways. The most common way is by flipping the physical WLAN switch ON. The switch is usually located at the front side of the computer (look below the light indicators at the bottom of the touchpad or at the left / right / side of the computer. On some computers, they're above the keyboard.

If that won't work, you might wanna try a combination of function key (Fn+ wireless key).
For Toshiba laptops it's Fn+F8, and for Lenovo it's Fn+F5, Dell and HP usually uses Fn+F2 but every brand has a different combination so check the F1 up to F12 keys for the wireless symbol.

Cheers,

It sounds like your WiFi switch was somehow shut off.

hpweb_1-2_minus.gif Wireless device is turned off or disabled The power to the wireless network and Bluetooth devices is controlled by a switch or button on most computers. It is possible to accidentally bump the button and turn off the wireless service. c02230159.jpg On most computers, there is an LED light that glows blue when the wireless device is turned on and enabled, and glows orange when off or disabled. Some newer models use different a different color scheme, see the user guide for more information. To turn on and enable the wireless device, do the following:
  1. To turn on the wireless device, simply move the switch to the on position. On some computers, the switch is actually a touch point on the panel above the keyboard.
  2. To enable the wireless device, right-click the HP Wireless Assistant (disabled) icon c02448899.jpg and select Open Wireless Assistant . Click Turn On . The HP Wireless Assistant (enabled) icon c02448900.jpg will display.
  3. Or you can try pressing the Fn and the F2 keys at the same time to enable your wireless adapter.

When i try to connect to my wireless rounter it doesn't show that its there. it says something about turning on the wireless switch

There is no manual switch on the stepnote 1500 like on other laptops, yet somehow it occasionally gets turned off. Press the FN + F2 keys. That should turn it back on.

WLAN switch is set to on, but light is amber and is missing from Device Manager. Any ideas! This is an HP DV9205US

check the add hardware app to see if the computer recognizes it , if not you'll have to locate and download a driver for the internal router.

Turn on wireless with function key hp laptop

Assuming this is the DV7 series laptop you picked when you posted there is a small wireless key above the keyboard(not embedded in the F keys) that shout be orange with the wireless picture displaying if it has been turned of.

press the key and wait about ten seconds and it should be fine.

If the key doen't turn blue then you may have a "real" problem, if it does you should be fine.

Can't turn on my wirless capability on HP Notebook

You didn't post the model number of your laptop but you may want to try FN+F2.

Usually the toggle switch for the wireless is on the front right hand side of the machine and has a light to tell you whether it's enabled.
