Screen reads no disc after loading even though a disc is in. Also sounds like there is rubbing when the disc rotates.

Hi. From what you describe it sounds like the spindle, the part you clip your disc onto, has been pushed down too far and needs to be pulled back up a touch, 2mm approx. It sounds as though the laser in the disk drive of your ps3 has gone out. Here are instructions on how to replace it:

Put disc into console, screen says 'reading disc' then says 'open tray', slight loading sound from console. Have tried on numerous occassions, but won't go any further than 'open tray', what do we need...

all depending how comfortable you feel taking unit open? this will cure your open tray blues!!!!!
take the hard drive out (inner) open this up it will be full of dust clean with rubbing alcohol dont forget the eye put back together and enjoy!!!

When braking at speed noise comes from brakes and steering wheel shakes slightley

hi you need to check the run out of the brake discs on your car it sounds like you have warped brake discs even though they are very thick heat build up or sticking brake can cause this
run out can be checked with a dial test indicator on the surface of the brake disc to check if it is even by rotating the disc and checking for deviations in the gauge reading or take it to a garage and get them to do it

Disc cannot be read. When disc is inserted - after initial load - screen reads ;Disc cannot be read: - this appears on all discs that used to work on this machine.

the laser lens might be dirty.
try cleaning it with a q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol (not dripping).
gently place the q-tip on the lens and gently twirl it.
use other end of q-tip to dry it, again twirling it.

or
you can use a laser lens cleaner for video game systems.

hope this helps :p

Cd/dvd drive will not read or load discs

POSSIBLE solution... (don't shoot the messenger on this one, lol!)

I'm sure you have tried, but have you cleaned your optics lately?

Using a Q-tip and a small amount of rubbing alcohol, and GENTLY rotate the swab across the lens, rotating it in the opposite direction you are wiping. This should "lift" any dust or grime from the lens. I would also clean the tray with a soft lint-free cloth (using an air-can just moves the dirt around, doesn't solve the problem)

Hope this helps!
