I have files backed up on a Cruisersyc thumbdrive from and old computer. Currently running Windows 7 and cannot run the LaunchU3.exe file.

You might have scan or let the windows 7 checked your thumbdrive that might be the cause that the *.exe file is destroyed or scan and fix by an antivirus software. Also the exe file may not be compatible with the windows 7. Try searching a Launchu3.exe compatible for windows 7 if unable to, manually copy the files and paste it to your new computer

Tip

File names of common Windows applications

Windows operating systems have many useful programs that come built-in and ready to go. These programs can typically be accessed by navigating through the Start menu or opening the Control Panel (or by typing their names in the Search bar if you have Vista). But sometimes you may want to pin the program to your Start menu or create a shortcut on your desktop, so that you can access it quicker and not have to hunt it down every time you want to run it. In order to do that, you'll need to know the program's file name and where to find it (unless you're running Vista, in which case you can use the instant search feature).

Below are some common Windows programs and their respective file names. Each of these files can be found in the \Windows\System32 folder. (The locations may vary on a 64-bit system.)

Command Prompt = cmd.exe
Computer Management = compmgmt.msc
Device Manager = devmgmt.msc
Disk Defragmenter = dfrg.msc
Disk Management = diskmgmt.msc
Services = services.msc
Task Manager = taskmgr.exe

Another useful file to be able to find is the explorer.exe file. Sometimes when the system locks up or a program freezes, your taskbar and/or desktop shortcuts will disappear. Rather than reboot the computer, you can run the explorer.exe file and "refresh" the Windows desktop. The explorer.exe file is located in the \Windows folder.

You can find these files by opening My Computer, selecting the C: drive, and then going to the Windows folder and then the System32 folder (unless you're looking for explorer.exe). Once you've located the file you want, you can right click on it and select either "Pin to Start menu" or "Create shortcut" to make it easier to access in the future.

My flash drive 16 gb sandisk cruzer u3. when i insert in Laptop it opens but file not showing. showing run launchu3.exe. how can i get launchu3.exe? i checked prpperties all file inside but not...

I have the very same flash drive.
The file you refer to "launck3.exe" is a file compression utility from Sandisk. It works well but I don't use it. I placed the drive into a USB slot and chose "open folder" in the options not "auto run". I then mad a new folder called "old cruzer" and moved all of the files in the root of the flash drive, to it. Leaving an nice empty drive to copy and paste to.
I hope that helps.

Window can not find gphone.exe

Hi,
gphone.exe is nowadays one of the most dangerous virus spreading very fastly. Its a trojan and changes your IE homepage and sends tries to open gtalk and yahoo messenger. It even sends messages to gtalk contacts. Its icon is just like that of folder icon and people thinking of folder click on it get infected by the virus.
Gphone virus basically is a 260 kb .exe file which looks like a folder and it can take any name of any other folder if you have clicked on the virus folder which looks like a folder but it isnt.If you have a folder name “comptalks” in your D drive it will make a exe file in the folder named comptalks.exe and if you click on that exe file it too work as a virus. It makes .exe files in all the folders you have with the name of the folder.
To remove the gphone.exe virus you just need to follow simple steps:
Go to Task Manager ->Processes and then click on gphone.exe and click on end process.
After that manually go to folder where gphone.exe is present and simply delete it.
Or simply search for the exe file clicking which started sending messages through gtalk. If you clicked on 1.exe search for that file on task manager and then delete it.

Good luck.

Sandisk Cruzer no longer prompting for password

I think the problem is corrosion on the contacts. Shut the computer off. Gently insert and remove the USB drive several times to try and clean the contacts. Turn the computer ON and when Windows has set up properly, insert the USB drive and see if you can read it. Many of the new drives and reader ports do not use gold contacts (too expensive) but use copper or aluminium which corrode easier an easiest.

My mp3 & video files always converted into jpg files

I too had the same prob... But got rid of it with the help of help 2 design site.. Go through this..
A new malware virus MediaControl.exe found in some parts of central asia late this month.
It changes the extension of all the media files like AVI (.avi), Music (mp3, …) to .jpg.
This just canges the file extension. Not the file format.
To play the media file, you need to re-change the file extension to the previous type, or open the file using the media player.
Malware name is MediaControl.exe.
It internally creates a folder by name ”mcont” in AppData of OS drive. AutoRun inside mcont also puts the MediaControl.exe to the winwos start up of msconfig.
How To Remove MediaControl.exe?:
1. Kill the process MediaControl.exe is running.
How?:

Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open the windows taskmanager.
Click on the Processes tab
Search the MediaControl.exe, Click on End Process button at Bottom right.
2. Remove MediaControl link from Windows Start up
How?:
Click on Windows Start Button, and on the Run option at the right side of the window,
Type msconfig on the form opened at left bottom.
This will open the System Configuration Utility
.
Click on Start Up tab.
Search for MediaControl, Untick the link. Click Apply -> OK, Click on Exit Without Restart on the dialog opened.
3. Remove the AutoRun from Computer:
How?:
Option 1:
Using Command prompt inputs.
Click on Windows Start Button, and on the Run option at the right side of the window,
Type cmd, to open the command prompt window.
Type the following command lines one by one.
cd C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
attrib -s -h -r /S /D *
del *
y
cd C:\WINDOWS\system32\mcont\AutoRun
attrib -s -h -r /S /D *
del *
y
exit
Option 2
Using Safemode booting.
Restart the Machine.
Click F8 on Booting, this wil open the machine in safe mode for you.
Browse for the folder
mcont
inside C:\Windows\System32\
Delete the folder mcont.
Restart the computer in the normal mode.
Thats All.
Once you remove the mallware, your computer is free of mallware but, you are left with thousands of your media files changed its exentsion to .jpg. It is not an easy job to change the file extension one by one. You can use an Auto-Renamer programs.
We recomond you the AndRenamer program. You can download it here: [ftp://ftp2.antp.be/antp/software/antrenamer2_install.exe]

How do i set up the password protect thing on my cruzer micro 4 GB ... please

Hi!

Plug your flash drive in and launch the .exe file that you will find there. It's probably called launchu3. Once you do that, then you will get a red box on the bottom right of your screen with the Cruzer name on it. Click on that, and you will find the "Security" section. The password setup is in that.
