Yes, its normal as TV remember its last status like channel number/ AV input, volume level, video settings etc in its memory. If you put TV in standby and then unplug it, TV will turn on in standby mode after replugging back in. Thanks.
Even with the set turned off, there is a portion that is on all the time. This is the standby circuit. It powers the onboard CPU and allows the remote to work. The main power supply for this section usually has a fuse. Check for that first. If that is OK, then the stnadby trnasformer may be defective. This is a small transformer located close to the power cord connection. Figure on $20 for the part.
My T.V. wouldn't turn on. The standby light was flashing six times, then four, then seven...I called Sony and they told me to unplug it for a couple of minutes, then try it again...didn't work....BUT, I have found a solution:
Try unpluging your T.V. for 4 hours+, then turn it back on. Worked for me! It's called a "hard reset" by sony. I had my T.V. unplugged for the whole day though.
