My laptop is using XP but does not give sound. How do i go about it?

You can download the audio driver for your model laptop from the laptop's manufacturer WEB site.
I cannot give you this link because you did not provide the details of the make and model of your laptop.

Unfortunately this computer is not windows 7 compatible, this means that sony is not gonna issue drivers for the laptop base on win7, however the os can be installed and you try using the drivers for windows xp, it is not sure but probably win7 would take those drivers.

You need to download the drivers from the Compaq/HP WEB support/download page. Make sure you select your model laptop and the XP Windows version of the drivers you require and install them. Use this link to download the drivers

Restart the computer with the headphones plugged in, after restarting , start a mp3 or other audio file, pull out phones and plug back in, from now on *** should work normally.

Choose windows xp as operating system and download the drivers... install it... it would be fixed..

That was a dodgy job,
the licence for windows XP installed by this guy is not genuine and can get you in troubles with Windows updates.
If you have a valid Windows XP licence (check the sticker at the base of your laptop), you should reinstall XP home using the licence number on the sticker.
If you do not have a licence, well I cannot talk here...

Regarding the sound, that is not a big problem, you just need to download and reinstall the drivers for your laptop.

Post a new question on Fixya, giving details on your laptop make and model, you will get the link to download for drivers.

Unfortunately there are no audio drivers for xp on that particular model laptop. Here is the link for the vista drivers though.

You can try it but the sound card is not designed for XP so it probably will not work. If you want to use XP on this laptop and have sound you will have to purchase a cheap external USB sound device like this:

It costs $9.99 and has free shipping. It has 5.1 surround sound and microphone input too. It is the only way to go if you want to run XP. Please take the time to rate this a fixya. I searched for an hour trying to find an xp driver that would work for you but there is not even a hacked on available yet. There are diehard XP gurus out there writting homebrew XP drivers but they have not made it around to this one yet. The external is a good workaround till then and its only 10 bucks.
