A blue screen is an operating system error. this can be caused by either a corrupt operating system or a failed hard drive. What you will need to do is run a system repair with your recovery or operating system disc. If the repair doesn't take then reformat the hard drive and install a fresh operating system. If you have any issues during or after the format or install, then the hard drive has failed and will need replaced.

Tip

How to check the PC system for errors, repair the damages or check disk.

1.) Go to 'Start'

2.) Press run and type CMD
(You will see a box eg: C:WINDOWSsystem32CMD.exe )

3.) Type CHKDSK , press enter
*CHKDSK is verifying files (stage 1 of 3) You have to wait for a few seconds/minutes.
Then you will get a message 'run chkdsk with /F (fix) option to correct these'.

4.) Type CHKDSK /F . press enter
( *Remember there is a space between Chkdsk and F: chkdsk<space>/F )
Again, you will get a message 'chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)

5.) Type Y
You will get a message ' This volume will be checked the next time the system restarts.

6.) Now, exit the box and restart your computer.
It will the check the disk. You will see this on your screen as you restart 'A disk check has been scheduled. Windows will now check the disk (stage 1-5)'

*Note: It will take some time to check your system disk. You need to perform 'check disk' regularly so that you can speed up your PC performance and to repair damages in your system.
* You can try it on any kind of Windows PC.

Desktop will not start.. will only go through Chkdsk

Try and tap F8 and see if you can boot to safe mode and go to my computer and rt click on C, and pick properties then tools, then
check for errors, and check auto, and scan.

Go to dell.com if you don't know who made the hard drive in your model. Then go to the mfg of the hard drive and download a hard drive diagnostic disk to check your hard drive for bad sectors.

You should go to dell.com and check your warranty and you can also ask dell what you should do.

This link posted below has a lot of drive mfg diagnostic tools.

Error message

That is not an error, Windows is trying to verify that there are no issues with your hard disk. Is what you wrote above all that you see? If so then check disk is freezing before it completes. Try to cancel the chkdsk before it starts by pressing any button when it prompts you to, log into windows, back up everything up that you need and restart your laptop. Worst case scenario you need to reinstall windows on your laptop

HP SUCKS

Most computers and laptops at some stage in their life get a Blue Screen (of death). The problem could be hardware related or operating system file problems.
Try reseating the RAM modules and hard disk first.
If it doesn't work then :-
On booting up press the F8 function key and try one of the options, eg The last known good configuration, Safe Mode etc.
If it still does not work, try the recover disk and as a last resort you will need to re-install Windows.
