A blue screen is an operating system error. this can be caused by either a corrupt operating system or a failed hard drive. What you will need to do is run a system repair with your recovery or operating system disc. If the repair doesn't take then reformat the hard drive and install a fresh operating system. If you have any issues during or after the format or install, then the hard drive has failed and will need replaced.

My Gateway file c0000218 registry failure the registry cannot load the hive /SystemRoot/System/32/Config/System or its log or alternate is. It is corrupt, absent or, not writable.

it sounds like you have a bad sector on the part of the hard drive containing this file. you need to let chkdsk complete the scan as it may be able to recover the corrupt file and isolate the bad sector so its not used again.
if this works backup the system as your hard drive may be failing.

If you have the OS disk, you can try refreshing the OS. That is not the same as a reinstall. You might also have a disk that is going/gone bad. I'd check that first using a disk diagnostic program.

Hello, I have had my Acer Aspire One netbook since January and it worked fine until now. It tries to boot but then I get this screen: > Checking file system on C: The type of file system is FAT32. One...

First of all, boot from a windows cd and proceed forward until you reach the format options, and check out if there's any problem with the c: drive or not. Sometimes this happens when the drive is corrupted. If it's ok then run windows repair setup and restore it again. In case this ins't possible, (if you have multiple partition on the system), i would suggest you to install additional windows on another drive/partition, boot from it and check if c: drive is ok or not.
If unfortunately the drive is corrupted, there's no other option for you to boot without formating c: drive, but you can run a quick format and recover the files (if there are important files saved on your system[C; drive]).
I would wish to know after all these.
Good luck.
Thanks for using FixYa.

Error message

That is not an error, Windows is trying to verify that there are no issues with your hard disk. Is what you wrote above all that you see? If so then check disk is freezing before it completes. Try to cancel the chkdsk before it starts by pressing any button when it prompts you to, log into windows, back up everything up that you need and restart your laptop. Worst case scenario you need to reinstall windows on your laptop

Most computers and laptops at some stage in their life get a Blue Screen (of death). The problem could be hardware related or operating system file problems.
Try reseating the RAM modules and hard disk first.
If it doesn't work then :-
On booting up press the F8 function key and try one of the options, eg The last known good configuration, Safe Mode etc.
If it still does not work, try the recover disk and as a last resort you will need to re-install Windows.
