I connected my HTC Wildfire to my Dell laptop (tethering) and tried to connect to Internet using the modem of HTC. Connection was successfully done as local area connection 3, I have got IP address, I see f.e. 199 packets sent, but 9 only received and no anyone browser is not working ( any web page is not opening).

hey i have fixed this problem on my phone (htc touch hd, telstra) and this is how i did it- go settings, connections, go advanced tab down bottom, click select networks, click new on the top bar under programs that auto..... enter in OptusInternet (exactly like this).... then click modem tab down bottom then click new..... enter in OptusInternet again and chance cellular line bar to cellular line (GPRS, 3G)... then click next and for access point name type in internet.............. click ok ok x and then load up internet explorer and it should work

However the current problem i am still facing is opera wont run..... explorer will but opera doesnt load. just sits there untill it comes up with error 104 blah blah blah- still working out how to fix this as i hate internet explorer and opera is way better (going to try downloading opera 9.5 beta again and see if that works)

for vista you need Windows Mobile Device Centre as ActiveSync is not supported by Vista.

Browse the Web on your mobile: Download settings from your Service Provider...
Browse the Web on your Desktop PC using your mobile as a modem - Activate blue tooth on your mobile & your PC (If no internal blue tooth port like most Laptops) you will have to purchase a separate Blue tooth dongle and follow the setup instructions....hopes this makes sense.

I solved this by configuring the phone settings to REMOTE-NDIS HOST on the tab "Configure network adaptors". Select this, press OK and add your network password (if any).

You need your SIM card inserted on HTC Wildfire S to use the data connection.To use HTC Wildfire S as a modem, you need to install HTC Sync on your computer first.
  1. Make sure the data connection on HTC Wildfire S is turned on.
  2. Connect HTC Wildfire S to the computer using the provided USB cable.
  3. On the Connect to PC screen, select USB tethering, and then tap Done.

How do i connect internet from my htc wildfire to my laptop
You may use the portable wifi hotspot in your phone to share its 3G Internet connection with your laptop. Go to Menu->Wi-Fi Hotspot.
I was also able to try it share internet connection with other Android phones. Hope this helps.

If you want to connect your laptop to the internet using your HTC Wildfire, one way of doing so is to connect your HTC phone to a mobile network (Globe or SMART here in the philippines), then use it as a Wi-Fi Hotspot (available on the menu, android 2.2.1). Then, check for Wi-Fi connections at your laptop.
P.S. Same phone here, but not yet tried to use it directly as a modem, like I used to in my old N97.

Here's how:

Download and install HTC Sync 3.0

Turn on the "Data Connection" feature of your phone (usually configured by the mobile operator)
To enable it:
  • From the Home screen, select MENU>Settings > Wireless & networks> Mobile networks > Check the box next to "Data Connection"
  • Connect your phone to the computer using the USB cable, the synchronisation process is an easy one.
  • In the Connect to PC interface, select "Internet sharing" option and tap on the Done button.

How can i use my wildfire as a módem for my
  • Connect your HTC Wildfire to your loptop through the data cable or bluetooth.
  • Go to CONTROL PANEL.
  • Click on NETWORK CONNECTIONS.
  • Select the option CREATE A NEW CONNECTION available on the left hand side.
  • Select CONNECT TO THE INTERNET option and click NEXT.
  • Select SET UP MY CONNECTION MANUALLY and click on NEXT.
  • Select CONNECT USING A DIAL-UP MODEM and click on NEXT.
  • Give a suitable name for the ISP asked.
  • Enter *99# PHONE NUMBER.
  • Enter your mobile number in the USERNAME and PASSWORD field.
  • Click on FINISH.
  • Double click on the connection established.
  • Click on PROPERTIES and make sure your HTC is made the modem and click OK. Click on CONFIGURE to make HTC the modem if it is not preset.
  • Click on DIAL.
Follow this procedure to set up a connection making HTC Wildfire as the MODEM. The mentioned procedure is for WIN XP. It is similar for VISTA and WIN 7.

Prashant, You do not have to copy this file to your laptop. You have to copy and run this file so that the drivers for the cell phone get installed on the laptop. Then only would you be able to use the phone as a modem. To get this file please follow the guidelines in the link below

Can I download modem on dell laptop
Most of the time on laptops if there is no phone input for a modem you cannot just plug in and dial up. The process i use at home for my pc is dialing through my cell phone. If your carrier will allow you to tether your phone without extra charges check your phone manufacturers website for modem software. You then just connect your phone through a usb cable and set a internet connection matching your carriers instructions. Another solution is dificult without networking knowledge but you can set up a home pc with a wireless antennae as a ad-hoc server through internet connection sharing and then allow your laptop to connect through the "server" pc.
