We purchased an Evenflo Triumph LX Convertable car seat for our six-month old grandson, and need to install in 2001 Nissan Pathfinder in the rear-facing position. My car doesn't have the LATCH system, and I'm trying to install using the seat belts, preferably in the center rear. According to our Evenflo Triumph LX instruction manual, any side-to-side wobble of more than 1" is unsafe. I followed instructions to put my entire weight on the back of the seat and pulled to tightened the seat belt as much as possible, but I still have too much side-side much movement - probably 3+", but the car seat is stable front-to-back with no motion at all. This much side-side movement is more than Evenflo and CPST recommend as safe in the event of a crash. I've also installed the seat on the passenger-side seat belt with shoulder harness according to installation instructions, but again there is considerable side-to-side movement.

Instructions also indicate putting a rolled-up towel or blanket under the seat to level it (using arrow indicator on side of car seat), but this seems to me to make the car seat even more unstable. Any suggestions other than pull the seat belt tighter?

On the back of the car seat you should have a black hook with a safety latch on it connected to a adjustable strap. You will require an anchor point to connect this to in the back of your car, depending on your car (sedan, station wagon,4x4 ect) your anchor point will have a small removable cover over it about 1 inch square or so, if you have not got one already installed make sure you get the anchor as well. This will be a small metal latch with a spacer and bolt with a safety nut the nut goes under the bottom of the parcel shelf if it is a sedan if not you won't need the nut. The the hook will attach to the anchor and then you just loosen the adjustable strap out until it is fairly loose (about 3 or 4 inches of play between the car seat and the baby seat will be fine) now if the baby is small and needs the seat to lay down ie they can't hold there head up or are to small to face forward, have the head end of the baby seat to the front of the car and set the seat belt throught the hole thats horizontal to the car seat. If they can face forward same thing just stand seat upright and feed the seat belt through the horizontal holes. The hole for the seat belt should be about 2 to 3 inches high and about 4 or 5 inches long. Just becareful not to put the seat belt over the childs belts on the baby seat. Then just tighten the adjustable ******** the baby seat until firmly tightened against the car seat and you are done. The baby seat will still move a bit from side to side but if it moves more than 3 inches or so tighten the adjustable strap even more.

How to loosen the straps on envenflo tribute carseat?

This is about all I could find for you. Hope it helps.
Had one - its a huge pain in the **** and I always busted my fingernails doing it. The metal clips have to slide over the bumps to get them out. I hated that thing. May I make a suggestion? Return it. lol . I'm figuring you got a combo seat - Evenflo Generations, Bolero, Chase, that is a forward facing only seat to 40lbs, or a convertible seat like Evenflo Tribute that is forward facing to 40lbs. Since I don't know her age its hard to make a suggestion, but for just a little more money (we paid $79 for our Chase) you could get a much better seat. If she needs a convertible that will rear face, get the Evenflo Triumph for $150 or less, The Evenflo Triumph Advance (not the original Triumph, make sure it says Advance) is a great seat. $150 version at Babies R Us has padding similar to Britax seats, top slots of 17", harnesses to 35lbs rear facing, and 50lbs forward facing. $120 Walmart version just has little less plush padding. Wide open belt path, easy to install, though it doesn't have built in lockoffs. The harness adjusts at the front of the car seat, you don't have to take the car seat out of the car just to raise/lower the straps. It's one of only 2 seats that does this (The Britax Boulevard is the other, I believE), and it has infinite harness adjustment so the harness always fits perfectly until its outgrown. No more tugging straps to tighten them either. You tighten and loosen the harness using knobs on the side of the seat. As a major bonus, it can be used in a recline position even in forward facing mode. Awesome for kids who still sleep in the car. I LOVE THIS SEAT! LOL My son, who is too big for every other car seat at Walmart has the same amount of room in this as the Britax Marathon.

If she is forward facing (over 30lbs and over 2years old) then a Graco Nautilus would be a lot easier to use and install, $150. Harnesses to 65lbs and then becomes a booster, will be the last seat you have to buy her. Metal reinforced.

Combo seats are usually a major waste of money, as they only harness to 40lbs, no more than most convertible car seats, so you're really not getting any more use out them then the convertible seat.

No instruction manual for Evenflo Victory Car seat

Hello!

What a great seat!

A few things to check: Make sure the seat was never in an accident before. Also, please ensure the seat is not expired, they are good for 6 years from the date of manufacture, which is listed on a sticker on your seat.

This site:

http://www.evenflo.com/Homepage/ProductList/tabid/203/Default.aspx?categoryid=0967b93d-ca99-479b-99cd-cb460e254ea8

has the manual. I would recommend talking to the local police or fire department and having a certified seat person to install the seat and show you how to do it the 1st time. This will ensure the best installation possible.

Thank you!
