When I had a Sony Cybershot, during playback mode the volume was controlled with either the Up, Down or Left, Right buttons (the circle with the little pictures on it; it's been like 3 yrs since I had my Sony) & I could adjust while it was playing. Hope this helps.
To delete multiple images without formatting your card (which will work), you can delete them in "index mode." You can delete all the images in a folder by selecting [All In This Folder] with your up/down button, then press the delete button. You can see the instructions on the bottom right of page two in the bottom of the "Read This First" instructions here http://www.docs.sony.com/release/DSCW5revised_RTF.pdf
Since camera model number is not mentioned in question, there are 2 ways to view pictures in Sony camera. Either you will find Play Back symbol in mode dial on camera, rotate mode dial until playback is selected or camera has Play Back button near LCD which need to be pressed so camera will shift to playback and you can view pictures in memory.
You will get sound when you transfer recorded movie clips in your computer and playback in computer.
DSC-S500 Sony Cybershot has built-in mic to record sound but doesn't have speaker to give sound during playback in camera. You need to import movie files in your PC and playback in PC to hear sound.
It sounds like the switch is not contacting the botton that activates the playback. If you want to repair it yourself there is a guy in South Carolina who has lots of parts for all the Sony Cameras.I bought my LCD from him for $39.00 plus shipping and it works perfect.I put it in myself and saved a ton.If you buy the part from him he sends you pictures of him taking the camera apart so that you can repeat the process when you install it.I think his email is firstname.lastname@example.org
