Will not power on (by 2 users)

Hi all,Last week I bought a Garmin Nuvi 250,It works fine but only when the unit is connected to the supplied 12v cigarette charger,I have driven for 5-6 hours with it pluged into the 12v charger and when removed from this source of power, the unit will not turn on,I have connected it via usb to my computer and when turned on it displays a computer connection icon.Can anyone tell me how i can use my Garmin without having to drag around a 12v battery with me ? So are you saying the on/off switch has no effect?
