Router setup
You do not have to use the cd.

Shutdown your PC. Unplug the power from the router and the cable modem.
Wait 30 sec. then plug in the power to the cable modem, wait 30 sec. then plug the power to the router. Wait till you have "Internet" light then restart your PC. The PC should pick up an IP address and you should be able to get on-line. This is if you have a cable service provider. If you have DSL, the router needs to be configured with PPOe.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it and give a testimonial for my response

Thanks, Joe

Client Mode or 2nd Wireless Router with new Subnet Mask?

The original firmware does not have this option, but you can get a custom firmware at http://www.dd-wrt.com/

DD-WRT is not supported by linksys, so a little caution there as this could ruin your router if it is not installed properly. Fortuately they have plenty of documentation on installation and troubleshooting if needed.

Also found this on how to setup Client Mode through DD-WRT - http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Client_Mode_Wireless

We recently installed a new replacement router WRT 160N V3 and something called Network Magic keeps interupting and trying to sell their service. We keep canceling them and then the router does not work...

Hello,

To clear out the problem if Network Magic has something to do with your connection.

1) Uninstall Network Magic from host computer.

2) Remove Ethernet connections to router.

3) Reset the router (press & hold reset button for at least 15 secs.)

4) Run Setup wizard on host computer and follow on screen instructions on connecting PC to router.

5) Setup wizard prompts on installing Network Magic, just ignore it.

6) if it automatically installs Network Magic just uninstall the program before you fully use your router.

Resetting router clears all settings made by Network Magic application made on the router.

Hope this helps.

I just installed my new zyxel router on my desktop. Went thru all the steps and now it is time to install the CD into my computer to become wireless. Question: I assume I install this CD in my laptop since...

the cd is likely an animated wizard that will guide your through the process of setting up your router (ex. how to connect each component and how to access the router's configuration page.) I doubt that you need the cd to actually connect your computer wirelessly.

what you need to do your router

1. the router should work right out of the box, usually what you would do you router is to configure some security (ex, change router's name, set password/network key/passcode - so your neighbor does not steal the internet your paying for). you need your router's manual and follow the instructions on the section usually called wireless security

what you need to do your wireless computer.

1. assuming you have configure some security on your router you need to know what your router name is (ssid) and your encription method configured on your router (wpa, wep. etc) and your key/password/passcode configured on your router and proceed with the following instructions depending your operating system:
xp
vista
for windows 7:
Start → Control Panel →View Network Status and Tasks → Change Adapter Settings → Wireless Network Connections. Right-click Properties, and then the steps are the same as in Vista and Windows XP. (or similar)

hope that helps and post back if you have any specific questions on the info offered!

Linksysy asks for a network key (Wep key or WPA key)

1. Using a computer that is wired to the router, access the router's setup page by typing 192.168.1.1 on the address field of your browser.
2. By default there is no username and password is admin.
3. Once you're in the setup page, click wireless then there is a sub tab there called wireless security.
4. You will find there the wireless key that is enabled in your router.

Need the driver for Linksys WRT300N V1 ... can't find the CD

Hi,

The LINKSYS WRT300N is a standalone device, there are no software/driver needed on your PC for the router to work. However, there is an easy Setup Wizard that is in the CD that normally comes with the unit.

Unfortunately, Linksys did not make the specific Setup Wizard (Version 1.3) for the WRT300N available online. However, if you care to try the Setup Wizard for a WRT54GC, it may downloaded from the LINKSYS ftp site here. I used to have a WRT54G and I did make use of the Setup Wizard for that model. I upgraded to WRT300N. The setup wizard for the old WRT54G worked likewise on the new WRT300N.

Alternately, the WRT300N can still be configured without the CD or the Setup Wizard by logging into the Configuration Page (192.168.1.1). Remember to use LAN interface when setting the router (as shown in the connection diagram) and set your PC to an IP Address of 192.168.1.2, Subnet Mask of 255.255.255.0; Follow on screen instructions and enter settings/configurations manually.

Hope that this be of some help/idea. Pls post back how things turned out or should you need additional information. Additionally, if you still prefer to have a copy of the original WRT300N Setup Wizard, pls include your email address that I may send it to you as an attachment.

Good luck and kind regards.
