I have an asus m2n mx (windsor) motherboard and an amd athlon x2 3600+ processor . . . i have a pair of 667mhz 512MB (total 1GB) ram and a pair of 800mhz 1GB (total 2GB). . grand total(3 GB) . . My problem...

The manual for your motherboard states:

For dual-channel memory configuration (2), you may:

• install identical DIMMs in all four sockets OR

• install an identical DIMM pair in DIMM_A1 and DIMM_B1 (yellow

sockets) and another identical DIMM pair in DIMM_A2 and

DIMM_B2 (black sockets)

* Always use identical DDR2 DIMM pairs for dual-channel model. For

optimum compatibility, we recommend that you obtain memory modules
from the same vendor.

What is the max ram speed my pc can take

According to some research, your desktop has 4 RAM slots available. The total maximum RAM your desktop can hold is 2GB (2048MB). Furthermore, each slot can hold a maximum of 1GB (1024) but cannot exceed the 2GB total.
This means you can theoretically install 2 x 1GB RAM DIMMS in 2 RAM slots or 4 x 512MB RAM DIMMS. Both will meet the desktops 2GB limitation.
The RAM specifications for your desktop are as follows:
RAM Limit: 2GB (2048MB) RAM Slot Type: SO-DIMM RAM Type: DDR1 (not DDR2 or DDR3) RAM Speed: PC3200/DDR400 ECC Type: Non-ECC
TIP: The RAM is DDR which means that while you can install them as singles (single-channel mode), the system will see a speed benefit from installing them as matched pairs (dual-channel mode).

If i change the ram stick will my pc reconise it

Yes.

Provided,
1) It is no more than the maximum amount, for that ram memory slot.

2) Adding it, will not go over the Maximum Total Amount for the motherboard.

If this pertains to an Acer Aspire T135 desktop computer,

A) The Maximum Total Amount is 2GB.

B) The Maximum Amount for Each ram memory slot is 1GB.

C) PC3200 is the best you can use.
DDR Sdram at 400MegaHertz. (400MHz)

[It can also use PC2100, and PC2700.

DDR Sdram at 266MHz, and DDR Sdram at 333MHz, respectively ]

Once you install the ram memory, BIOS should automatically find it.

If you are only going to use one ram memory module, be sure to put it in Slot 1.
The Processor reads ram memory in Slot 1 first.

[Slot 1 is closest to the Processor.
It may have DIMM 1 printed on the motherboard, next to Slot 1 ]
