Question about Electrolux Vacuums

1 Answer

Hello. I have an electrolux glider upright bagless vacuum cleaner (UK model) who's brushes do not rotate any more. I'm guessing that I need to replace the drive belt but I have no idea where to start. I would appreciate any tips. thanks

Hello! There are two solutions to this as the Glider model you speak of could be the more old fashioned type where screws on the bottom foot plate (ie where the spinning brush sits) have to be undone in order to get to the drive belt.

However if you have blue/red/Harmony Glider type model, the drive belt location is on the top of the hood where the floor selector is. There are three screws to undo here; one sits just underneath the main hose to the left hand side of the machine (and can be tricky to take out) if looking at the machine from the front, whilst right at the front of the machine, you'll see two other cross head screws which need to be undone. Make sure that the rotary height dial is out of the way - the top hood should then pop open revealing the brush. Then just take out brush by grabbing the beater bar and pull upwards gently. Take off the old belt, put on a new one around the spindle motor and then onto the beater bar and push the brush roll back in.

Unfortunately you may need brute strength for this as a new belt is often tensioned.

Dont forget to rate. Thanks.

Dyson DC25 brush won't spin when touching the floor. If I lift it off the floor it spins, once it touches the floor it stops. Any idea what the problem is?

I can think of three things that could be wrong.

The easiest one is that the brush has hair and fluff wrapped around its bearing. This happened to me and was causing a burning rubber smell. Turn it over and remove the base plate. Lift the belt by putting a piece of cord under it and slide the brush out. Remove one end of the brush and slide the spindle out. Clean all the hair out and reassemble.

The internal drive belt is worn, or the nylon bush that it runs on.

The clutch is worn out.

The last two are not as easy to fix as the main drive belt is enclosed in the centre of the clutch. There are videos though that show you the process. Have a read and a watch, but try my first tip first.

I have removed the obstructions in the brush bar and the brushes still will not rotate. What else can I check?

Hi Genie, it's Jack at Dyson.

Once you've cleared any obstructions from around the brush bar and inside the cleaner head, you need to reset the machine. This is easy to do - just press the button in the red recess on the side of the cleaner head. It can help to use the eraser end of a pencil to press the button.

The procedure is shown in the video below. The brush bar will never rotate when the machine is standing upright, so please make sure you recline it into the vacuuming position before testing it.

I hope this helps, but if you'd like any further advice please get in touch with us directly. You can reach our freephone Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US).

    Brush does not rotate

    Hi Sharon,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC07. Please note, the brushbar will never rotate when the cleaner is standing in the upright position, or if the brush control is set to 'Hard Floors'. Please check you have the cleaner reclined into the vacuuming position, and that the brush control is set to 'Carpets'. If the brushbar is still not rotating, it's probably best if you get in touch with us so we can provide further assistance - you can call us free on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US).

DOES THIS SWEEPER HAVE A BELT MY BRUSHES ARE NOT MOVING

    Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC14 All Floors. This model does not use a standard replaceable belt, but a clutch system which allows you to turn the brushbar off for cleaning hard floor surfaces. The brushbar never rotates when the cleaner is standing in the upright position, or if you have the brush control set to 'Hard floors'.

If the brush control is set to 'Carpets', but the brushbar does not rotate when the cleaner is running and reclined into the vacuuming position, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly so we can resolve this issue for you as quickly as possible. You can call us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US).

Eureka Model Whirlwind litespeed. The rotart brush does not turn or rotate. Should it turn or rotate in order to give better suction?

Hello fnintel, yes, if you are using the upright vacuum it should spin, ( the belt likely slipped off, or the brush is clogged with hair and the likes.)
However, if you are using the hose on the vacuum like a shop vac, some models bypass the rotary brush.
    Good luck!
