BRIGHTNESS ON A Pioneer Pro-520HD REAR PROJECTION TV

I have one of these TV's, but the picture is too dark. How can I get it to display lighter?

There is no "Brightness" setting on the menu of this TV

  • dwain603 Jul 27, 2008

yes, I have tried all the menue menu video settings, but brightness is not one of them. The closest I come to actually lightening faces, is to increase the back level, believe it or not., but they are still often too harsh/dark.

  • dwain603 Jul 27, 2008

I think it may have been this way since I got it. It got worse until I adjusted it, but still shows darker faces (with more contrast) other TV's

  • dwain603 Jul 27, 2008

Yes, I bought it new not long after this model was released. Don't remember how long that was (4 or 5 years?)

  • dwain603 Jul 27, 2008

    I'll give Pioneer a try

and has the picture been like this since you purchased the tv? What are the lighting conditions in the room? My first suggestion would be the bulb itself. I would contact pioneer for the nearest authorized service center.

The most common issue on this model is the power board develops all kinds of bad solder connections--have to remove and in most cases hand solder the entire board.

Dim/dark Picture

The model indicated here is rear projection that uses three picture tubes.

If rear cover is removed--can be done by removing entire front screen but there are hazards like damaging the screen---with rear cover removed clean the lens in the three round cyclinders which point up and are hard to miss===

They are the light source for the picture---there is if you look up inside and to the rear a mirror but unless grimy it rarely needs cleaning.

clean the lens with a lens cloth or even a paper towel with glass cleaner sprayed on the towel.

Picture has a red hue to it. I have checked the convergence and the lines up and stays put. The TV was working great when I turned it off and when I turned it back on this condition was present.

The problem could be a few things, check your color balance and contrast or try adjusting the guns. If its a fuzzy red haze, kind of like a halo around things, it may just be that the crt coolant fluid needs changed. I, myself, have had a problem with the tinted halo in my rear projection Toshiba tv, I replaced the crt coolant fluid and the picture returned to good as new.

Pioneer Elite Pro 620 HD TV on several occasions the screen has gone black but sound continues and the power green libht remains on. After shutting down for 10-15 minutes picture comes back.

Pioneer Elite Pro rear projection 620HD - Picture is still there but brightness and "white" have faded over years allowing for mediocre viewing when room is dark only. During the daylight picture is visible if viewed straight on and within 15 feet from set. Any suggestions?

Colors are skewed on Pioneer Pro-520HD

you can replace your the convergence chips on the convergence board. The board is to identify because it has a large heat sink. The convergence chips normally starts with STK... After you find the chip, you can buy online (ebay has a lot of listing) and costs around $10. If you know how to solder, it is very easy to do. I just replace the convergence chips on myPRO-610HD and it works perfectly.

Is the RGB computer-like jack at the rear of the Pioneer PRO-520HD projection TV a digital input like a DVI input? I'm trying to use the TV for BluRay discs. Chris Fox

The RGB input is like a computer monitor input, and may handle HD. I would recommend using component video instead for ease of use, but also most TVs will only handle a couple resolutions, but your component jack should handle 480i, 480p, 720p, and 1080i giving you flexabilty and a comprable picture.
