To make a dvd cd that will play in most players beit dvd or cd the best thing to use is nero. It won't be the cd burner itself it will be the program you are useing to burn it with. Try nero but just remember that not all dvd, cd players will play burnt discs.

I am using XP I can burn DVD successfully but that burned DVD can't be played, but the dvd writer plays other dvd's, and burns and plays CD's without any problem.

If you are using windows to burn the a dvd movie, then it won't be able to be play because normaly windows would only burn files as a ISO file. You will need burning program like Nero to burn your dvd, it will allow you to make a workable dvd that you can play on dvd players and other dvd device.

I have an SR1000 SR182ONX desktop, but the front of my built in DVD/CD writer/player say SR192ONX. I can't burn or play DVDs. The current driver (TS-H552L) says it is not a writer. I need the correct...

It sounds like your operating system quit seeing your dvd/cd writer/player.
to check this locate mycomputer icon, or goto start and locate computer and right click on it.
a window will open, click on properties, then left click on Device manager you will see all the devices on your computer, and you should see DVD/CD-ROM drives in the list of devices. if you right click on this you have a choice of scan for new devices or Properties, if you scan for new devices chances are it will not find you dvd/cd-rom device, windows operating system very seldom does. so click on properties,
You will see several choices like reload driver, update driver, uninstall drive depending on your operating system. If you have the DVD/CD-rom device cd with the software driver then and only then you may uninstall the driver, so you can reload it to make the operating system see the device after you reboot the computer, then install the driver again... If you do not know what I'm talking about...Take the computer back to the repair shop and have them to the repairs to make the Windows Operating system see the DVD/CD-rom device.

Good luck...

I need to replace dvd writer in my advent SE 2102 desktop pc but can't get it in. Think I need to remove faceplate to put it in from the front but I don't know what to do without damaging casing?

check to see if there are any external screws ie for side panels removal if so remove side panels then (remove cables that are connected to drive then remove screws holding in drive then simply slide drive out put in new drive and reverse the process). if no external screws put hand underneath front of computer there should be a gap carefully pull panel away, will be quite stiff then do as above in brackets.
hope this helps

I purchased a plextor px-870a dvd/cd writer to replace the cd writer in our computor it is a dell with a dvd player in the top slot and a cd writer in the next slot down but the cd writer stoped working so...

On the back of a CD-writer or a DVD-writer is a small grid (2 rows) of gold pins.

Each vertical set of pins is labelled: MA(ster), SL(ave), and C(able)S(elect).
Be sure that one drive has a small jumper between the MA pins,
and the other drive has a small jumper between the SL pins.

Was there any software on CD-ROM that came with the DVD-writer,
e.g., software to play DVDs, and software to write CDs and DVDs?
To "play" a DVD, you'll need that software.
To "play" a music CD, Windows Media Player will suffice.

Dvd burner not detected

Sorry, but that model is not a DVD writer. It can only write and rewrite CD's. It can only read DVD's.

Here is a page with specs:

Sony CRX310S Specs

Note under DVD>Write DVD it says N/A. (Not applicable.)

Phillips 1TB HDD problem, playing movies hrough DVD player (USB)

My question would be are the movies in the right format. Just because they play on your computer does not mean they will play on you DVD.NTFS or FAT 32 would have no bearing on this. They are simply data per sector protocols and are related to magnetic storage devices. You may need the proper codec for you computer so it can make a DVD you player can play.

Problems recording DVDs

Will it play on your computer?
Some older DVD players will not play this DVD...
Also, make sure you do not have multiple Burning software applications on your PC.
