The pinch roller, guids, idler assembly, and the belts have to be changed. Then the guide alignment should be done to make sure that transport and heads are tracking the tape properly.

With age and use, these machines reach a point where they need maintenance.

You need to purchase a VHS head cleaner or clean the heads and pinch rollers by hand. remove cover and lid to drive system. you will see all the tape guides, rollers and heads. use Q-tips and denatured alcohol and clean every thing the tape touches. swap q-tips as they get dirty.

It keeps ejecting the tape when inserted and frequently eats the tape

The only way to find out why it's doing that is to remove the top cover and look for signs of damage. If you can't see any try an old tape and see what happens to it with the top cover off. You will know then.

Vhs player eating tape

Hunnn....Eats the tapes, with salt & paper?..just a joke!
The tape runs on a guide ( sort of a tiny ledge )when it is fully engaged. The tape cartgage is loaded ' sucked ' in with gears that drop the cartage on top of other switches to give direction, so that "fingers" pull the tape towards the reading\recording heads. When the tape IS aligned properly, BUT is locked in the proper position the tape will NOT touch the upper or lower "ledge" that keeps it accross the heads. When the tape is NOT aligned the upper or lower tape WILL touch causeing damage. OPEN THE CARTGAGE ,Look to see if the upper & lower of the tape is damaged. Now when you say "eats the vhs tape" Does the tape comes out WRINKLE, CRINKLED,CRAMPED UP??? Then that could be ANY wheel with a black rubber rim. going bad. replace if you can. but they are VERY HARD TO FIND if u don't know what u are doing.

Eating my vcr tapes

ok , lets start with MOISTURE where VCR located ,what happen is that moisture can cause the tape to catch on the polished surface of the drum head , some instances will play, but the tape stops stretching it and damage occurs. SECOND check for a defective idler tire that prevent the take up reel from spinning. also check for any drive belts ( look like black rubber bands ) that might be stretched with time ,replace with new ones .hope this info helps

VCR eating tapes

Is the vcr in a cold room? the heads might have dew on them
or need cleaned. If it keeps doing it you probly wouldn't want to fix it at a shop. you can buy new vcr's with remote at walmart now for $25-$30 I think. Hey you can try the old treatment
that i always do. Try unplugging the vcr from the electrical
outlet for a hour or maybe even longer sometimes that will resit
everything in it and it will work right.
