Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I have a gigabyte GA-K8VM800M motherboard running 2.8GHz AMD sempron processor. The operating system is WINXP with SP3 on it. The problem is my USB external drive does not work on it anymore. I can see it but it won't let me do anything with it. keeps comming up with IO error. The drive defaults to the D: drive letter although I have changed it, it has the same problem. I have downloade everyhting including upgrading the BIOS on the motherboard and getting patches from VIA for the chipset. What I have done is as follows: I have changed the graphics card, the RAM took out every other card on the PC and reformatted and re-installed windows xp from scratch- I am still getting the same problem. The USB external drive works with another computer running a 3GHz Intel processor, so there is nothing wrong with the drive. The funny thing is that everything else works on the computer. I have only one alternative and that is to replace the motherboard. I am hoping you guys can give some new ideas, Cheers

Nead to replace my motherboard ga-k8vm800m

So you need a motherboard that has a Socket 754 processor socket, supports AMD socket 754 processors with up to an 800MHz FSB, uses DDR Sdram 400MHz ram memory, (PC3200), and has an AGP graphics slot.

From a quick search just now I see a lot of them listed on Ebay.
NOT advertising for Ebay.
I saw other listings on the internet also. (GA-K8N51GMF-RH - Way too pricey!)

You have a socket 754 motherboard. That socket had been in use for just 2 years over 5 years ago. Obsolete.
Get a new  AM3 socket one and a new processor.

Gigabyte k8m800-8237 won't boot with 2nd gig ram installed.

Could have been dusty. Find a copy of Memtest and run it to check things out. Errors could mean a bad stick or bad slot.

Gigabyte K8vm800M Motherboard Does Not Recognise Seagate SATA HDD

I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM IN THE PAST. I REPLACE THE IDE HDD WITH SATA AND AFTER I BOOT IT SAYS NO HARDDISK. IT IS BECAUSE WINDOWS XP HAS NO BUILT IN SATA DRIVER.

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO IS CHANGE YOUR HARDDISK TO IDE OR INTEGRATE A SATA DRIVER INTO YOUR XP (USE NLITE) OR USE THE FLOPPY DRIVE TO RUN SATA DRIVER ITS INCLUDED IN THE MOBO WHEN BUYING.

System will not boot

The CPU failure was possibly due to a Power Spike, if that was the case then the Memory or Motherboard may also be damaged,  it may be best to test the CPUs and the memory on a known working system, to see what is working & what is not
