You can try using some polishing compound as like is used to polish the paint on cars. Use a soft tissue to work it in. Use a little water with the compound to keep it fine.

Eventualy you should be able to polish out the scratches if they are not too deep.

When finished, rinse and dry the disks. If this does not help, then they will most likely have to be replaced.

How do I fix a grainy/ patchy jumping/skipping dvd.

Hello, Bloody_dark -

Often those who rent DVDs or borrow them from the local public library mishandle them and do not know how to handle them properly.

From your question, it seems the DVDs are either scratched or dirty (possibly with food residue.)

This website gives step-by-step instructions on how to clean the readable side of a DVD:

If, after cleaning, the DVD still is grainy, patchy, skipping, etc., it is probably scratched.

What I do when I have a rented or public library DVD which is scratched, I return it with a "sticky note" attached to the DVD box stating it is scratched and that I properly cleaned residue from the readable side of the disc, so that the rental business or the library staff will know that the DVD is damaged and can choose to replace it.

There are ways to remove scratches from DVDs, but I do not recommend anyone try those steps if they do not own the DVDs themselves.

Note: I am a librarian by profession and have seen firsthand how people mishandle DVDs. I'm from the 45-rpm and 33-rpm vinyl record generation. We learned how to properly handle those vinyl records so as not to scratch them. Bottom line: We were taught to only handle the vinyl records (and subsequent CDs and DVDs) by their outer edges. For CDs and DVDs, they can be held between the thumb and forefinger, along the inside and outside edges.

It won't play a dvd! and when it does it just sits like it is stopped!!

Eject the DVD from the Cyberhome DVD player. Look over the bottom of the disc. If any dirt and fingerprints are present, remove them with a damp cloth, moving from the inner circle of the DVD to the outside.

Insert the DVD into a scratch repair device, if the DVD has any light scratches (deep scratches are not reparable). Turn on the DVD repair kit and the device literally sands down the scratch. When this is finished, the DVD should work correctly with the Cyberhome DVD player.

Avoid inserting homemade DVDs into the disc drive. The Cyberhome is not compatible with many self-created DVDs, causing a "Disc Read Error" message to appear on the screen.

Spray compressed air into the disc drive of the DVD player. The compressed air removes dust and other debris from the laser and reading lens in the player.

How do i fix scratches on my xbox 360 disk

get Brasso. It is a metal polish but it works great for restoring CDs and DVDs. I got a Madden game that was scratched to hell and wouldn't even get recognized by my PS3 and used it and it worked great. I've fixed DVDs and never had a problem. Just put some on a rag and rub it on the disk with light to medium pressure until you see the scratches disappearing. Make sure to clean the disk and polish it with a clean rag afterwards. I hope this helps and good luck!

The movies are begining to freeze. how do we clean the dvd player and do you think that is what is causing it

Hi I am vortash the most likely reason for pixel freeze is dusty and dirty discs .. or scratched and badley treated discs .. when these marvellous dvds an cds came out I remember when the selling point was that they could be scratched and still play ... RUBBISH ... if scratched the laser is deflected and the system struggles to catch up with the stream of information coming off the disk .. so yes it will cause this get a good cd dvd cleaner and run it in the machine and use the solution and cloth on your dvds before you insert them .... Regards Vortash

My Panasonic dvd/video player says that the dvds are scratched even when they are new.

for sound may be you are using above 96khz frequency which your reciever is unable to adjust and always try to play original dvds in players if you want your player's life long.
