It seems like the tip of the charger and the laptop are both getting hot

A little unclear on your "touchy" meaning but if the battery (compartment) is getting hot (warm is norm) there is a chance the battery back has a bad cell in it, have it tested. MM85

Try this quick fix, if there are no issues with your charger and/or battery, this might work...
- remove battery
- make sure charger is not connected
- long press the power button for about 1 minute
- release then connect charger or power adapter, without the battery
- press power button to turn on the laptop

If this did not help, try using other power adapter.

Not charging Acer Aspire 5732z, now won't turn on!

If it does not work with the Charger while the battery is out then I would say either your charger is bad, the dc power jack where the charger plugs into the laptop is bad or you've got motherboard issues. Does the charger have a light on it to indicate that it is on when plugged in the wall? Do you see any lights when you plug the charger into the laptop?

Take an ink pen and see if the little pin inside the computer where the charger plugs is loose and moves a bit. If so that is probably your problem. If the pin is tight and the charger works, then you've got motherboard issues.

When I plug in the power cord to charge the battery, the light on the cord goes off. I tried several charges and they work. Can charged battery on another computer and place on the dead computer and it...

There's no fuse problem with that computer, try this first, Plug in the charger to an outlet don't plug it in the laptop, if the light on the charger turns on, then the charger is working try to plug it on the computer if the light on the charger goes out there's a problem with your motherboard. Contact the tech support for that so you can get that part replaced.
To double check try to use a known good charger if it works then you'll need another charger if not, Then contact your tech support for your dell make sure you still have a warrant.

Hope this helps!

Green light cuts off when plugging into laptop

Replace the charger, it probably overheat and died.
Try with a voltmeter to measure the output power (usually aroud 19 V DC)
Then the tricky part, try to power something else with the charger , something who might work with the output power (a car light bulb for exemple).
If it does work then you have a short cut on the motherboard of your laptop if it's the case replace the laptop, it's the hell of a job to repair the motherboard...
good luck

I have a compac lap top and when i plug in the wall charger nothing happens it wont charge

check to see if you can hear a hum from the charger it self , push the box hard againts ear if its humbing charger is ok, if you cant hear anything from it check fuse to plug. if this is ok then charger is broken.

If charger is ok check the conection into the laptop if it feels loose and when u move it slightly it goes on and off then possible conection to laptop prob.

If this conection is ok and the charger is humbing and working, could be a possible internal switch gone in the laptop that decides to charge and not charge when battery is full. These are always failling on laptops but hopfully its not this.

If you find the charger is broken search ebay for a new or secound hand one, aint to expensive. hope this helps

Acer Aspire won't start

There is one common flaw with most all laptops. The socket plug for the power cord is connected to the motherboard. When you plug the power cord into this socket it applies pressure or weight on the socket inside the computer. It sounds as if your charge cord is working. Moving the computer around while it is plugged in can cause even more stress on the plug socket.

Try this...but be careful...using a small item such as a toothpick or other non-metalic item...push up and down on the plug socket. If it moves around this is not normal and probably the cause of your problem.

I fixed my laptop by soldering the contacts of the socket back down to the board. I don't suggest doing this yourself unless you know how to take a laptop apart. Check with your local computer repair shop and have them give you an estimate to either fix by reconnecting or replacing the motherboard. Hope this helps. Thanks!

My Laptop will NOT charge! What do I do?

It is obviously not charging. Either the battery is defective, the power adapter is not getting power, the adapter itself is defective, you're not using correct adapter or power outlet is no good.

Try to see if theres any light at the laptops jack where you connect the power, if not theres no power getting in.
Try to remove and insert the battery again.
Make sure all power connections are secured
Try removing the battery and just plug it the power adaptor to isolate the problem.
Try another power outlet
If plug in to power strip, try resetting strip by turning off and on

If none of these work then you may have a defective jack in your laptop.

AC Adapter

Hi Kayla,
It is most likely the power connector on the laptop is faulty and the power adapter is not making electrical connection with the laptop.
You stated that by moving the touchy power plug that you could get it to charge, this is proof that you have a faulty power input connector on the laptop.

Check the power adapter's laptop connector with a multimeter, if there is voltage at the connector then the adapter is OK, the voltage reading should be as stated on the label or slightly higher.
You may be able to get the power connector repaired (it may need resoldering because of a dry joint) or it may need to be replaced.

No power through the laptop dell d6oo

There's evidently a short on the laptop's motherboard. Unless it's something obvious that can be repaired easily (and it'll still cost a lot for the labor to take the laptop completely apart and put it back together), you're going to have to get the motherboard replaced (expensive)or get a new laptop - depending on which seems more cost effective to you.

In any event, contact Dell.
