Two devices stopped working after plugging them into a powered usb hub: a laser usb mouse and a wireless network adaptor. Both were working fine when plugged into a regular usb hub. Got the powered hub...

the two device wont have any issue. but i would suggest to connect the ext. hdd directly to the sys. and it requires more power, and hub does not provide that much power which is required for ext hdd. you can try to connect only the ext. hdd to hub and check.

Why don't the usb ports work on the side of monitor

is there an extra cable, aside from the Power Cord, and the VGA Cable? if not, look on the back of the monitor, there should be a similar plug in like a USB printer would have, its kinda square. If there is, you just need a USB printer cable to make it work.

The Media reader is not reading any cards but the indicator light comes on when I insert the cards

Try plugging your media reader into another USB port. If it is plugged into a USB hub, then that is your problem, plug it directly into your computer. Although you should be able to daisy chain USB devices, in actuallity that does not seem to be the case. I have found a lot of devices do not like USB hubs. Also you may want to try another USB cable. These things get corrosion on the contacts and sometimes make poor connections when plugged into the computer and/or devices.

USB Ports in my pc is not accepting Mobile Data card

hi,
if it was working earlier and you remember the date it was working earlier, what you can do is restore your system back to that date, doing a system restore will remove any configuration changes done or program installed after that day to which we will restore it to.

I have an inspiron laptop. the two USB on the side stopped working all of a sudden however when I checked the computer stated that they are working fine

may i know what device was connected to those ports?try connecting a mouse to the same ports and see whether it is detected. If it works well and fine.Other wise goto Control panel>>System>>Device manager>>Universal Serial Bus Controllers>>Here, delete all the USB Root hubs.If you are removing them using a mouse connected, then u might lose the mouse response after u delete the USB Root hubs. Please note this.Restart the system after deleting all the Root hubs and wait for a few seconds for them to get installed back.Restart again and confirm whether the issue is resolved

Start up fault

I'm not an expert at this!!
I looked up Dell Tech Faults on another pc.
Disconnect power and press on button to discharge pc. Remove side panel. Remove all USB port cables including hubs. Remove memory from the CRIMMS. Reconnect memory. Reconnect usb's. Replace panel and power cord. You can always connect to Delle Tech Support - doesn't cost.

For some reason only known to anoraks or rocket scientists--- this works and pc is restored to former glory.

Hope this works for you too.
