Re: xerox copier 5305
Sounds like you've lost a tooth from a gear in the scan drive, most of them are plastic, it will only need one tooth to break to make a clicking noise. If you can see which gears rotate as the scan moves, examine them very carefully. Can you gently move the scan by hand?.Do you feel any resistance at the point where the noise starts? If so , check for obstructions, like position sensors bent/damaged

the 5305 was a portable copier and the paper tray attached to the platen cover (glass cover). It may be there. The device will not work without a paper tray. If it's been in the basement, you may need to make sure there are cartridges in it too before attempting to power it on. If there is not a toner cartridge, the device will not power on.
Hi renee - L3 error code indicates a platen problem. The platen did not move within 15 seconds after the main motor turned on.
Check if any items are blocking the movement of the platen. The platten is the glass that moves across the top of the copier when copies are made. It must have free movement.
1) Remove the obstacle if there is a blockage.
2) If there's no blockage ,power the copier off for 30 seconds, power back on and try another copy.
If this fixes your problem PLEASE rate this as fixed. Let me know what happens. If you need more help just add a comment and I'll be happy to assist you further. Thanks.
sounds like faulty drum cleaning blade, which is usually contained in the replacement drum module.I would be inclined to take the drum unit back where you got it (unless you replaced it with a second-hand one) 99% certain the problem is contained in that module
