THERE IS A SINGLE SCREW ON THE SIDE OF THE VAC KNOWN AS THE 'BELT DOOR'.

LAY VAC ON IT'S RIGHT SIDE, SO THE BELT DOOR IS STICKING STRAIGHT UP IN THE AIR. REMOVE DOOR AND BELT DOOR. CUT OLD BELT IF IT IS NOT BROKEN. TUCK NEW BELT UNDER BRUHROLL PULLEY FIRST THEN STRECH OVER MOTOR SHAFT.

DO NOT REPLACE BELT BY REMOVING BASEPLATE. 1) THE MOTOR IS NOT STABLE ENOUGH FOR THE TIGHT BELTS WITHOUT THE SUPPORT OF THE MOTOR 2) REPLACING BASEPLATE IMPOPERLY MAKES VACUUMING DIFFICULT. ">

First removed the 5 screws that hold the bottom plate in place and remove it. Note how the brush is positioned in the base. The new belt is first placed around the motor shaft, and then around the brush. When pushing the brush back into the housing, be sure the series of notches in the plastic end caps face the carpet. It is easiest to get the belt side of the brush started into it's slot, and then line up and insert the other side. Expect some resistance, as the belt must be stretched several inches. After replacing the bottom plate, the vacuum should be ready to use.

MY ORECK PUSHES SO HARD.

It be one of two problems or both.
1. You may need to change your belt. a belt change on an Oreck should be done about every 6 to 8 months.
2. A new roller brush. a roller brush acts like tires on your car. when the brushes wear out they have no traction and cant grab your carpet to pull the vacuum.

A combo of replacing both would more than likely be very helpful.

My Oreck XL 9100HA started smoking (white smoke) when I vacuumed. There is a burning rubber smell. How do I check/change (if appropriate) the belt? I have no User manual, nor can I locate one on the Oreck...

It sounds like the belt has been damaged. You can get another belt from yoru local Oreck store. You can even take it in to the store to show them what happened. Purchase another belt and replace it. (It was very easy when I did this, so hopefully the belt is all you'll need too.)

Best of luck!

Roller on upright vacuum is not spinning so vacuum is not picking up dirt

Hello,

Any time that a vacuum's roller brush stops spinning, this means that your belt has either stretched so much that it's fallen off of the motor, or that your belt has broken.

Here's a very helpful video on how you can replace the belt on your Oreck. This will give you step by step instructions on the belt change.

If you need to purchase a new belt, here's a direct link to a 3 pk. of belts that are used on your Oreck XL upright on our website:

I hope that this video repair was helpful to you! Please be sure to rate my repair helpful by clicking the thumbs up icons in the top of this repair page.

How to I replace both belt and brush correctly.

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Oreck XL 9100C Ultra Bagged Upright Vacuum. The best way to install the belt is to put the belt on the brushroll 1st and then install the brushroll, the brushroll has marking on the top and the bottom of the bearings stating NEW or USED / OLD and install them identical on both sides and then use a belt puller to stretch it onto the motor pulley. The best place to get instructions on how to install the belt and brushroll is the owner’s manual and an owner’s manual is from the Oreck Factory of which I will supply for you listed below or you can download the owner’s manual from the Oreck Website. . I would check with your local Oreck dealer or vacuum dealer in your area to see what is going on. This is most unusual for this to happen. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

Oreck Vacuum Cleaner problem (upright)

The best solution to any Oreck vacuum problem is to replace it with another brand. You are going to continue having problems with the Oreck..Not that other brands don't have problems. But, at least with
other brands the problems don't occur as often. Belt burning up. clogs, roller brush bristle wearing down prematurely, cord breaking internally, etc.
P.S. Oreck is good at one thing. Marketing!
