Zenith tv model # H27H38DT

I accidently got into the factory settings menu and moved settings. I now have no color in my picture. Is there something that will give me a guide to restoring these settings.

lee2fixit, thanks for taking time to answer and suggest cures for me. However, i have already downloaded to oweners guide. It told me not to go into the "xx-f" menu , but by then it was too late. this menu is for the factory settings and should only be adjusted by a trained tech. that has the proper equipment. you know the old saying " got to be smarter than what you are working with" ? Well, this one is way smarter than i am. I believe that if i could get my hands on a list of the factory settings then i could get it close enough. if you looked at the oweners guide you saw that these settings are values ranging from 0-500 and not just a slide going from left to right. nice TV but too much headache.

You can get the installation guide for a Zenith H27H38DT free at the following location. Look on page 36 to go into the VIDEO MENU and set PICTURE PREF to PRESET. That should restore the factory settings, so try that first. If you go into the actual Installer Menu on page 41, proceed with caution.

If you can see the menu screen usually a menu button pressed sequentially will toggle through different aspects of options, I dont know what kind of tv it is and even if i did i wouldnt even know what all to do in a step by step fashion for your specific set, but you can toggle through the menu options by pressing the menu button and when the button is pressed until the menu disappears that is the whole list of menu options. Now find one that has some settings for color, tint, contrast ect... and tune the color back to the right (assuming that from left to right would be the negative/positive scale. Some tvs require the factory remote to make some settings (which sucks) but only on the gay ones. If the menu option is not visible on-screen what-so-ever, as in it cant be seen or legibly read ect then it may be something worse than just bad digital menu settings. If it cant be seen because of no signal (ya know the ssssscsccssssscscss sound with the fuzzed greyish scrambled nothingness) and it makes it bouncy (ive had a tv like that) then change the channel to an input source (Video, AUX, Input, ect, ya know) so it will be just black,... or blue, or something that isnt scrambled, and try then. When your in the menu mode you can scroll with a remote or something and look through all sections of the menu options, and 9 times out of not ten but maybe 15, or 10 i guess but who cares anyways, there will be an option to completely reset the tv set to origional out-of-box factory settings. It will also reset any saved/deleted channels, channel names and ect but will probably set the picture settings back to how you would prefer them. Like i say im no tv man but I hope that info can help you. If it dont then hopefully someone else can (and will) help ya.

The picture is oversized and the printing as in the stock ticker or in the sports scores can only be seen a little bit on the bottom. Can't find anyway to resize the picture.

Zenith sets, like most others now, are adjusted electronically through a service menu. You'll need your original remote control (or a Zenith-brand universal replacement with a MENU key) to access the menu. Press and hold the MENU button until the channel number and time display goes away, then press 9, 8 , 7, 6, ENTER. This puts you into service mode.

In service mode, CHANNEL UP and CHANNEL DOWN move through the different settings, and VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN change the values. Make sure you write down the original value of anything before you change it so you can put it back if necessary. One of the reasons the manufacturers hide the service menu is because the set can be damaged by incorrect settings to some of the parameters.

On some models, you can't get to all the parameters unless you change one called F MODE from 00 to 01. You might need to do this on yours.

The list of parameters varies by model and features. I haven't worked on a Zenith in a long time so I don't remember exactly what yours says, but you want to find two settings for V SIZE (vertical size) and V POS (vertical position). Adjust the size first by lowering the value until the top and bottom of the screen are black. Then adjust the position so the picture is centered (black strips close to equal size). Finally, increase the size until the picture fills the screen again. It's normal to adjust for a little overscan, meaning you push the top and bottom a little bit out of view. If you stop too soon, on some channels you might see flashing lines at the top of the picture.

When you're finished adjusting, turn the TV off to exit service mode. If you needed to change the F MODE setting, put it back to 00 first. Your picture should be properly sized after all this.

I have a 26inch Console Zenith Color TV, when I turn it on, I get a full pidture and sound but after 30 seconds, about 6-10 inches of the bottom screen goes black--but the rest is ok???

Hi,

Get the remote control and press the MENU key repeatedly until you see the Video menu at the bottom of the list of options you will see EZ Picture.
Use the up/down arrow keys to select EZ Picture and use the left/right arrow keys to select your preference. Set the preference to Preset not custom.
Press Enter, Quit or Menu to exit. See if resetting the TV's Picture settings resolves the problem.

If you have a bar at the top of the screen as well then it could be in letterbox viewing mode. Again just go into the Video menu and turn it off.

Please let me know how you get on.

Good luck.

Can someone take a picture of the original video settings on their Zenith B25A24Z 25'' TV because my screen is all messed up and doesnt get much better when i play with settings.

If this TV is a 25"...then this is an older set. Is the picture dim and the colors dim, will the tint not correct the color scheme? Zenith picture tubes, as a rule, for this model go bad...sorry but this is true!

Zenith Model SY2551S 1996 27" - Green Tint

The core problem with the green tint is the aging of the picture tube, and can be compensated a bit by using either the green drive control usually located on a printed circuit board on the neck of the picture tube or on the main chassis. There will be 3 main controls which will adjust the red and blue as well. If these controls are not present then you will need to get into the service menu and adjust it from there. Don't adjust anything else as you can make the set much worse. Also remember that in order to make these internal adjustments while watching a black and white picture (turn the color all the way down) you will have your hands and arms near live circuits that could shock you and cause injury to yourself as well as break parts inside the set when you pull back after being zapped (voice of experience here) Of course if you can do all this by the service menu then you won't even have to remove the back of the TV.
