Hi dmlcarr,

Canon Tech Support directed this solution and it worked. It is similar for all electronic devices like Routers also. These devices need their "electrical brains" refreshed occasionally.

1. Turn off the printer (MP 830) or other
2. Disconnect the printer from the power outlet (totally unplug the printer)
3. Wait for 1 minute - not less than that.
4. Plug the printer back in to the electrical outlet.
5. Turn the printer on

Good Luck!

What are the error codes on my printer,5010 & 6100?

The 5010 error indicates a scanner error. The scanner unit cannot detect the home position, or the scanner unit warming-up is not done properly at power-on. On the LCD, "Scanner is not operating correctly." is displayed.
The 6100 error indicates a logic board error. The check sum value is incorrect in the ROM check at hard-power-on.
Fixing these errors is more expensive than replacing the printer. Sorry.

I got an error message 5010 when I was trying to fax, but can't find in the manual I have what 5010 is and how to resolve it. Thanks you!

5010 is a scanner error that you can get if the scanner lock is locked, and also if you put a heavy book on the glass and stop the scanner. Canon only sells the scan assembly as a whole unit around $150.00

Error code 5010

There's no specific info on a 5010 error even on Canon website, but ANY error in between 5000-9999 needs Canon's attention, so if it's under warranty, get a replacement.
