Hi i own an ACER aspire 5745G unit, I've accidently scrached the display screen, Everything works well though, But id still like to get the screen glass replaced .. is that possible?? Its a 15.6" Display & Uses LED technology, The acer service rep said that the whole unit will be replaced and not the screen glass .. is that so ? I feel he is simply trying to earn a quick buck or so?

There is no separate screen glass; the display panel is one piece and needs to be replaced that way. It's actually that way in every laptop, which is why some vendors sell protective covers for laptop screens. So the Acer rep is not giving you the runaround. It's not difficult to change the display yourself if you want to try it. It just involves removing a lot of small screws, and there are how-to sites and videos online. A new display is around $150 (and may be available for less from vendors of used parts).
