My Whirlpool front load washing machine is showing a code of Fdl. This means that the front door is not locking. I cannot open the door, it is locked. I hear a faint clicking like it is trying to lock or verify the door is locked. My question is: How do I get in there to 1. Unlock the door to get the clothes out. 2. How do I get in and fix the problem. As I recall the way to the screws that hold it all together is through the door. I may be wrong, I watched a repairman fix another set we have. Help, my wife is going on a trip tomorrow and she needs me to fix this right away.

The machine is not starting because the door lock fails to lock the door as what error code FdL stands for. It flashes after the door locking routine fails to lock the door after 6 attempts. Replacing the door lock/switch assembly is the only viable if no problem is seen with the wire harness connecting the assembly to the central control unit. The link below contains the detailed instructions in replacing the door lock/switch assembly.
There is no code D that I know of . There is a code FdL and FdU (door lock, door unlock) If you remove the front cover below the door (three screws at bottom of machine) taped inside on the wall of the cabinet should be the technicians packet that shows all the codes and their meaning. Good Luck.
I'm judging you have a whirlpool duet front load washer. The FdL code means the control circuit board (CCU) thinks there is something wrong with the door lock. Whirlpool had some bad quality control with the CCU board and as a result there are cold solder joints on the board at the spade terminals and the relays. These cold solder joints cause bad communications between the CCU and the rest of the machine, including the door lock. If your machine is only 3 months old you should call in for a warentee service repair. Show this response to the service person and if applicable he should be able to repair the board or exchange it. Good Luck.
FdL means that the main circuit board (CCU) is not communicating with the door lock and the door needs to be locked b/4 the washer will work. The door lock is rarely the problem. Most often its cold solder joints on the CCU circuit board causing the bad communication. Many times a F11 code comes along with the FdL code. To repair this problem the CCU circuit board needs to be removed and the solder points where the spade connectors and the relays are connected to the circuit board need to be soldered over again. This all stems from poor quality control when the circuit boards had the components soldered to them. The process was able to adhere the smaller connections but not the larger ones compleatly. If your not to handy with a soldering gun you could take this response and show it to a good appliance repair outlet and they should be able to repair your circuit board. Good Luck.
Listed below is the meaning off the error code, and corrective actions needed.
Door lock error
A Door Lock Error occurs if the door cannot be locked. It will try to lock it 6 times before displaying the error.
• Door Lock Mechanism broken or removed from the Door • Check Door Lock/Switch Assembly • Check the wire harness connections to the Door Lock/Switch Assembly and Central Control Unit (CCU) • Door Lock/Switch Assembly Failure
Replace failed component.

Fdl is a code that indicates a door lock error. This error occurs because the door cannot be locked. The door will try to lock six times before displaying the error code. You have a faulty door lock switch. Hope this helped and best wishes.
"Fdl" is a door latch FAILURE error code. What the error is telling you is that something is malfunctioning with the electronic door latch and/or interconnecting wire or Central Control Unit. It is recommended that you check the wiring harness connected to the door latch or, replace the door latch. The following link explains how:
