Question about HP Presario V6305NR PC Notebook

Howdy, help up grading memory

Howdy, I want to up grade the memory to 1 gig or the full two gig on the V6305, I found the modules for sale but they call them "Dual In-Line Memory Module" , does this mean I only need to buy the one module and it is designed to fill both slots, or do I buy two 1 gig modules and fill both slots with seperate modules??

I bought the dell 1330 XPS for the new laptop and it Rocks because the Compaq just gave up and runsvery slow and doesnt want to operate, the problems I am having with it are for sure software related, but its weak to so I bought the dell (it looked cool:-)

So, I want to learn on the compaq. I am going to upgrade the Hard drive and the Memory, as well as the Video/Graphics card (if you can?) and the eathernet card (if it will help?)

And anyhting else that will makeit a monster, but first of course I will restore it to eliminate the soft ware problem.

Any help with the memory module question at top and any other mentioned topics would be SOOOO appreciated.

Well, I figured with it being such a entry level model , "so to speak".

Once again excellent answer. Do you think it's even worth it or just end it at, restore, bring it up to 2 gig ram and leave it for the back up and etc... I need a machine dedicated to building a web site and maintaining it. Didnt think this would be quite good enough even with a 2 gig ram and 200 hard drive. Opinion?

Lastly, (i know I'm bugging you a lot here:-) Is there a good like, base line or empty shell type notebook that you can buy and then build out to be a freaking monster, for fun, for experience, and for cost savings?

    Thanks.

The simplest way to make sure you are buying the correct memory for a machine is to use the memory configurators at www.crucial.com or www.newegg.com

Apart from increasing the size of the harddrive and putting more ram in there very little else you can do to a laptop.

Everything else is a physical part of the motherboard, so usually not upgradeable unless its an expensive laptop then maybe you can upgrade the video card.

Laptops and Notebooks are not really for the user/builder, they are too proprietary and the individual parts are too cost restrictive.

If you want to build a beserk gamer a good place to start is the "Build Your Own PC" threads at http://forum.pcmech.com/index.php

I have a vgn-b3vp (pcg-5b1m) sony laptop, can i upgrade the memory if it has 512 of none-removable memory and only 1 bank.

Yes, you can use the 1 bank and get higher graded memory, another 512 in the 1 bank would make 1gig, you can probable get as much as 2 gig in the bank to make a total of 2.5 gigs by buying a 2 gig memory stick.

Want to increase memory above 1 gig. compaq nx9010

You may have incompatible memory module. Just put in one memory module in at a time to see if it boots up, this will determine which module was not compatible.

How to up grade ram memory

there should be a small trap door in the bottom with 1 or 2 screws that has the memory.
as you will have to have the correct style memory then take it to the computer store where you purchase the memory and they should install it for free.

Memory

Buy the 2 - 512MB memory, and put them in. You will not lose anything.Everything is on your hard drive, not in resident memory.
