Don't know which model Studio you have but look to see if you have a 15 pin VGA plug on the laptop. You can connect an external monitor to determine if your computer LCD display is bad or the video circuit.
If the colors look normal when attached to external monitor, then you have a problem with the laptop's LCD display panel. If the colors are still distorted then your video circuit inside the laptop has a problem.

I have a dell studio 1745 laptop that is 13 month old. The display has very fine snow storm on it and there are fine lines going from left to right and slowly moving down the page. The colours are all...

This is due to loose connection which could happen after a period of time between the screen to the laptop.
Solution:
You can use another LCD screen as you secondary screen which you need to hook up to your laptop onto the blue connector (vga connection) or get the laptop screen replaced altogether

I was checking my email and all of a sudden the screen changed and got very blotchy, and the colors are wrong. I ran the trouble shooter and checked the display and color settings and they are all fine. ...

If you didnt change/update anything with both Windows and your drivers, then I'd go with the graphics chip problem. This is actually a common problem with laptops (especially HP). But to be on the safe side, try an external monitor to see if the problem lies in the LCD, or it's really a motherboard issue.
If it turns out that it's the motherboard, then there are two solutions: a new motherboard (aprox. $500) or reflow of the graphics chip. Either way, for your sake, I hope I'm wrong. :)

Dell XPS M1210 laptop was set next to a speaker and now the bottom half of the screen is grey

It's due to the magnetic field interferences from the speaker. At the first place, you shouldn't keep it near the speakers.

Always keep speakers far away from the Monitor. Now turn off the monitor and turn it on again, hope it solve the problem. You may even need to restart the system.

Moving magnetic fields (such as from an electric motor) can cause flickering when near a CRT screen. A static magnetic field, such as from your computer's speakers, can cause color shifts or incorrect colors in the area near the magnet. This color shift is caused by parts of the screen becoming magnetized. Occasionally the color shift will remain after you remove the source of magnetism. To help reduce or eliminate the color shift, you can use the degaussing option on most monitors. Most newer monitors automatically degauss when you turn them on, while older monitors might require you do to it manually. Most monitors have a button or menu option that enables you to degauss it manually. Degaussing a monitor will de-magnetize the inside of the monitor, removing the color shift. Unfortunately, if the monitor is exposed to the source of magnetism for too long, degaussing will not be able to clear it up, requiring you to repair or replace the monitor.

Samsung 920WM monitor - Color problems, "blotches"

The 920WM has a recommended resolution of 1440x900. If your display properties are set to a higher or lower resolution, there will be ugly effects on videos, photos and fine text.

If you're running WindowsXP, minimize your apps and web browser so you can see the background.
Right-click on the background and select "Properties" to bring up the display properties dialog.
In that dialog, select the "Settings" tab to see the display resolution.
Set that to 1440x900 if it's not already, then hit "OK"

If videos are still blotchy, then check the video playback software to make sure it's not setting it's own resolution.

If that helps, please be sure to hit the "thumbs-up" button for me.

If not, use "add comment" to fill in some more details (XP or Vista? What's the video playback software called? How are you viewing pictures?) and I'll do my best to help!
