2 things, did your Wi-Fi pci-card come with laptop or did you bought it later, if its the later it could be a authorizing issue, or else it could be the router misconfigured for the computer like the new routers with WPA2 protocols doesnt "seeing" the old b or g cards in laptops

I have just bought a second hand compaq nc 4010 i have read that i can make it wireless using a pcmcia wifi card how do i install it as i have no disc drive on the nc4010?thank you

pcmcia is a card slightly smaller than the antique floppy disc that usually fits in a slot on the side of your laptop your model does have this slot, but personally I would go for a usb hsdpa modem as this provides faster broadband internet.
good luck

No Wireless signal on Presario 2170US Model #DK587AOptions I added a wireless card to my Presario. However when checking the service manual it states "CAUTION: Be careful when connecting and disconnecting...

My 2170US does not have built in wireless like some of the other HP or Compaq models of the same vintage. Buying a mini pci wireless card wont make the wireless work. You will need a wireless card for the pcmcia slot on the left side of the laptop then your wireless will work. If there is an issue with the pcmcia slot a cheap work around is to buy a usb. based wireless card and use one of the two usb.slots in the back. It's not high speed usb.2.0 so it may run a little slower. As long as your pcmcia slot works just install the the card that you can buy even at walmart install the software and your wireless should be up and running. Its an old laptop and not worth spending a bunch of money on when new or used much better machines are out there.

System: Compaq presario 2100 Intel. Disassembled the computer to fix the battery/power jack that is connected to the motherboard. My pcmcia/CISCO wireless card is not working since I fixed the computer,...

You can try using Compaq Diagnostics for Windows 95/98 for your model, there is no PCMCIA driver available on HP website for this computer.

If this is not a software problem, then it is probably a bad soldering joint that lost contact on one or more of the PCMCIA motherboard contacts.

that's why the laptop beeps whne you insert the wireless card.

READ ME FIRST BEFORE TAKING ANY ACTION. BY NOT DOING SO, CAN MAKE YOUR SYSTEM NOT BOOT CORRECTLY.

First thing I would do, is look under Device Manager, to see if the PCMCIA slot is not install correctly. The software driver could be corrupted just like Microcrap. Not sure how to. Very Simple. Here's how.

Right click My Computer, scroll down to properties or select My Computer, then press ALT and Enter at same time. Either way same window pops up.
You will be looking for a Tab on the top that says "Hardware". Below that is a button says "Device Manager"
Looking at the list for "PCMCIA" click the plus sign on the left to expand it. Unless you see a yellow triangle next to it, then it's install correctly. To fix it, you can always clcik on it and on the top there's a icon that says "Uninstall" If/When you click it windows will uninstall the hardware only. There's a icon in the same area:"Scan Hardware Devices" Either Click it or restarting the pc, windows will try to install it again. As long as the software drivers are not uninstall, windows will try to install that device again. Most of the time, it will install the hardware without any action form the user. Sometimes you need to tell it where the files are at. If ALL checks out, then check the PCMCIA card and the slot o the pc. The pins could be bents on the inside. Again if all check out fine, try a different PCMCIA card.

Where is the wireless switch

There isnt a switch for a PCMCIA wireless card. Most likely the driver did not install correctly.

make sure the card is plugged in. then right click "my computer1.gif" and click properties then click hardware1.gif then device manager. I bet there is a device called "network controller" with a yellow "!" through it. Next make sure the linksys install CD is in the drive, and doubleclick "netowrk controller" then click reinstall driver and let it "automatically find the driver". it should reload the correct one from the CD.

let us know if this helps.

Wireless crd

Hi alioops, unless you're using a laptop with the FS7600, normally you can't use or install the netgear wireless pc card (WG511;PCMCIA Card) to a regular desktop computer. If however, you're using a laptop, then you have to find a narrow rectangular slot normally at the side of the laptop with flip or hinge cover. Merely pushing in the Netgear Wirteless PC Card into the said slot would physically install it. Of course, it has to fit snugly and perfectly in order to work. Further you may have to install the drivers that are in a CD that comes with the card. Hopes this works for you. Pls post again how things turn up. Kind regards.
