Question about Brother SE-270D Computerized Sewing Machine

4 Answers

Brother 270D My machine has all of the sudden stopped embroidering. It's threaded correctly, new needle, bobbin is in place, etc... It sounds like it's working and then I notice the thread is not moving on the spool. and it beeps and tells me to check and rethread the upper thread. I've done that so many times I'm going crazy. Of course I'm in a time crunch for these items to be ready tomorrow. :o( Help....please.

I've cleaned everything out that I can see in the case. I can't seem to find anything in there that shouldn't be there. The top thread thinks it's embroidering for a few stitches and then the check and rethread notice beeps at me. :o(

so far it has not overheated or completely shut down. it just won't stitch.

  • eowensby Jul 25, 2008

Any idea where a thread sensor might be located or perhaps what it would look like?

This has to have thread sensors, other wise it would run through the entire embroidery process even if there were no thread at all. Check the thread sensor or sensors, they may have malfunctioned, be misaligned, need cleaning, or be blocked by something.

I'm sorry I don't. I've looked all over for a service manual for this machine and can't find one. I say follow the thread. It's got to be either behind the plastic cover in the front where the thread goes, or on the needle mechanism.

The machine act's as if the motor gets hot and quit's. Once it cool's off, it will work again.

There might be some clogged piece of thread at the bobbin. Better check thoroughly the machine if there are small pieces of threads or hair strings that are inserted which can block the rollers.

I have a brother 270D and the upper thread keeps breaking (common i know) but ive done everything int he trouble shooting section of the manual.. its only when i embroider too. checked different tensions,...

I had the same problem with my machine and what was causing the problem was the use of the wrong size bobbin. Check and make sure you are using the right size (type a) and if you can get bobbins already wound it would be better. Hope this will help you

Thread tangles under throat plate while embroidering

Could the little hook that is stuck over the bobbin area be the thread cutter? My thread cutter gets stuck there and I have to turn my machine off and then try to use the cutter to reset it to its "resting" position.

Make sure that your needle is put in the correct way, there is a groove in the front of the needle, check with your finger nail, this is usually to be facing you, and make sure the thread is going through the tension holder correctly do not have the foot down when you are threading the machine,as this stops the thread from going through the needle tension holder.

Thread adjustment

Sounds like the bobbin tension is loose. Look at this website on their "repair" page where it explains how to adjust the bottom(bobbin) tension.

Top thread wraps around bobbin

Is it birdnesting under the bottom or it is actually getting tangled inside the bobbin case? I've had my machine for almost a year and don't think I've had your exact issue. Sometimes, when you do a stich over a already stitched portion, you may have a problem with the bobbin and I just generally stop and start it again. It is important that you use the correct needle and also use a good embroidery thread and stablizer. Another thing suggested is changing the needle after about every 5 designs. Also, check the bobbin case to make sure there's no fuzzies caught in it. I use "canned air" like you use on computer keyboards. I also only use 40 weight emboidery thread for the top and actual bobbin thread for the bottom. Other threads can really jam everything up. So it's been trial and error to find the right combinations. Good Luck!
