Overheating, Check Engine Light On

1990 Toyota Corolla
Overheating - have to fill the radiator and overflow bottle every time we use the car, but doesn't appear to be leaking.

Runs rough in idle and sometimes on highway

Twice blew white smoke out exhaust, but other times was normal.

Check engine light comes on at times.

We don't have money for big repairs, but guess we have to do what we have to do - thought we would check with you guys first.

Try checking your water pump. Maybe it is not functioning the way it use to function. It affects your engine temperature. If your Water pump is running ok. Then have your engine analyze by an engiine analyzer. All they have to do is hook up to ECU to a computer and analyze the whole engine performance.

My pioneer deq-9200 equilizer keeps resetting to default settings whenever i start my engine. What's going on here?

The EQ has two power wires on the back like a head unit. One is constant power, and the other one is ignition/switched power. This normally happens when the installer takes the switched power and applies it to both power leads going into the EQ or head unit. The EQ needs the constant power line run to a 12V source that never turns off. The constant power line is normally yellow, and the switched power line is normally red.

Engine problems

it can be a spun bearing or the rod itself gets wore out and stretches into an egg shape this will also cause a knock but usually when a bearing spins it will make the engine hard to crank over. then as it wears out the knock will develope, or it will just suddenly appear and the blow apart.

Check the stereo installation.

There is a YELLOW wire that needs to be connected to a Constant +12 volts when the vehicle is OFF.

It is responsible for saving the pre-sets after the engine is off.

Best of Luck.
