I haven't used my dsp a1000 for a while and lost my service manual. when I power it up w no spkrs or input signal it shuts down after about 3 secs. Is this normal or does it need to sense a load first?
I am an electronic tech but retired and only a handful of my prior equipt. I am living on a very low fixed income(ssi) and can in no way afford to take it in for repairs. I remember the function sw. was a little intermittent and I had intended to replace it when I used to have shop, but overall it worked very well. Knowing yamaha's qualitycomponents I hope it's not a hard to trace electrolytic that has dried up or sulfated. It was stored in a high humidity area which may have cotributed to the possible problem. I've has it in a dry environment for several weeks now and would really like to use it again. Any assistance you can render will be very greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Gene

If you run through the setup and certify it knows about the center channel first, then test it with tiones, then maybe swap the center speaker with another one you might come to an answer.
Be sure you are using the AUDIO OUT on the vcr then going into a AUDIO INPUT on the DSP A1000, this will allow the DSP A1000 to amplify the audio line level.
After few sec when you turn on your receiver did you hear a click noise ? if yes your receiver is OK not in protection mode if no click noise is output protection in that case you must return where did you buy for service and update firmware a lot of update
However you can reset your receiver and debug the DSP section ( digital signal processor ) as follow
To reset
1. Press and hold down VCR/DVR button, then press STANDBY/ON button when the unit is Power on.
2. After " Clear " is displayed, the preset memory and each mode stored in the memory are initialized and will
return to the factory settings, and turn to Standby mode.
Now turn back on and check if it work or not and make sure check input mode such as analog or coaxial or optical input if stil no sound then debug DSP as follow
To set in DSP debug mode
1. Press and hold down DISPLAY button, then press STANDBY/ON button while the unit is powered ON.
The version number of m icroprocessor is displayed only for 3 seconds.
Main:
8 1.05/07903A
2. Press TONE+ button within 3 seconds above, the version number of 1st DSP is displayed.
DSP 1st:
SR8051:07601A
3. Press DISPLAY button while the 1st DSP version is displayed. The status of DSP and DIR will be displayed.
E1A48K0N/0FFPo
FFFFFF0 0 000
To exit
Press STANDBY/ON button.
Then unplug the unit for 30 sec then plug in it should work now if not you need to return it to 1 of the service center Onkyo in your town to repair it
Good luck
if you wanted to use your receiver as your controller and source then try to find out the receivber has got a bridge (jumper) between the pre-amp stage and the power amp stage. if your receiver does not have that, then you can just connect your receiver tape record out to one of your DSP inputs. subwoofers, the DSP has got a sub woofer out connector. you can use that (RCA type) to your sub woofers. put in series because DSP has got only one output for sub. or, you can connect your subs directly to the mains speakers, parallel connections. maybe one sub to your left and the other to your right channel.
output stage problem, systems trips due to protection. have the power amp transistors checked. the rotating of function switch is normal, its like a routine system check
it's not actually a problem my friend. it could be a problem with the output circuitry and your protection mode is activated. there ar ecases that systems shuts off with no appraent reason and those are isolated cases. If that were so on your units, the problem lies in the systems board (CPU) a defect in the backup power supply. also grounding problem of capacitor leaks. if there is no trouble in the power amp section and works well suddenly trips, some modifications can be done. i dont know if that can be solved by your technical experts on how to modify the protection circuit. the principle on protection circuits of yamaha is just one and same. but newer models has got better but sensitive designs. 2095 is about 3years younger than a1000. 2095 is almost all digital when a1000 uses mechanical switches.
The jumpers are there to connect the preamp section to the power amp section and are required for the receiver to opperate properly. Make sure the receiver is set to the proper input, in this case: CD. If there are A/B speaker connections, be sure the receiver is set to match the connectors you're using. If there is still no sound, profesional service will be required.
