Question about Samsung HLN617W 61" Rear Projection HDTV

1 Answer

No Power A few nights ago a couple of long thunderstorms and a lot of lighting strikes in our area, caused my TV and cable box no power through. I also discover my garage door opener also not working although it has the light on. Generally, there is a standby red light on the ON/OFF button, but this case I did not see any power. I checked the same outlet that I use all units, it does have power to my receiver and DVD player. Does anyone could provide me some hint to why no power on my TV? If the lamp is totally out, does it really have an effect on the light located at the ON/OFF switch?

Actually I resolved the problem. As I speculated, the fuse was blown out. I had to replace a new fuse. That was a great experience.

Turned TV off at night. Next day went to turn TV on but it was completely dead. What happened?

If there was a power outage durring the night it is possible that the power supply or the TV mother board could be effected-- even if there was a thunderstorm.
So in this case you can also check to see if the fuse if blown as a protection or that the SMPS is damaged.
Please remove plug remove rear panel to get access to the circuit.
see the link for tips on SMPS repairs.

Thin horizontal black lines

It looks like either failing convergence IC chips or a couple busted capacitors around them. This will need to be given for servicing.
You could try a hard reset first though: Unplug the TV from the power socket, remove all cabling, wait 5 minutes and replug to wall socket and redo cabling.

However, I think that you could have either convergence problems or a failing power board, for which you will need to get the set serviced.

Hope that helps!

there is a possibility that the semiconductor in power supply side damaged due to electrical surge. more likely the STR IC of Diodes.

Power Surge at Home

This time it came in on the cable, the clue was the cable box also blew. So if you had a cable surge supression device...for HDTV, I think you would have survived the second surge.

I do have the technology. It is a F-connector type and will handle HDTV signal.

Have sound, no picture

After fooling around with all of the buttons, and disconnecting the power to the TV, it occured to me that it may be the Comcast digital cable box. I unplugged the cable box for a few minutes, plugged it back in and the TV works just fine!

maybe your ac cable has a lost contact thats why when you wiggle it it will turn on. just replace your power cable first before you are going to troubleshoot the other problem.
