Use air compressor oil only, motor oils like 10W-30 will leave carbon deposits on components and reduce their performance and compressor life. No manual lists an exact amount of oil to put in, they just say fill until the oil is half way up the sight glass. It's usually +/- one cup depending on the model, some take as much as one pint. Go by the sight glass for the best performance and to protect your compressor.

Use non detergent air compressor oil. It can be found at Lowes, Homedepot, and even Walmart. It is sold in small containers for about $2-3 dollars. A synthetic blend air compressor oil is needed when the unit is used in severe conditions. Synthetic air compressor oil sold at Lowes $6.95 and other stores will take more heat. Second choice is 30w non-detergent motor oil. Engine oils tend to produce carbon on the reed valves in the head if used extensively. I have been using the Lowes Kobalt brand of air compressor oil for some years in my Makita and Rol Air compressors with good results. The part number for Makita brand of oil is 18112-A quart size. It is only available by special order where I live. Good Luck!
