Question about Micrografx Designer 9 Full Version for PC

Open Question

I'm running Designer 9 with Windows 7. I want to import a jpeg file, but when I tried it said DESIGNER WAS UNABLE TO TRANSLATE THE DRAWING: COULD NOT TRANSLATE FILE 145890.JPEG. EITHER A TRANSLATOR FOR THIS FILE TYPE IS NOT INSTALLED, OR THIS TYPE ARE NOT SUPPORTED. CHECK TRANSLATION LOG C:\PROGRAM FILES (x86)\MICROGRAFX\DESIGNER9\TRANLATE.LOG... When I was running the program with windows XP, there were no problem at all. So, what should I do??

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

SOURCE: I have been using Micrografx Designer 3.1 in

The present Graphics DLLs are compatible with Designer 3.1 with OLE (dated May 28, 1992). If you are running an older version of Designer on the OWS and the drawing uses Designer fonts, displaying the drawing would give a protect violation from DCP by MGXLIB.DLL because the MGXFNT.DLL are not compatible.

You can replace the older version of the MGXFNT.DLL with a new one. To do this:

  1. Copy MGXFNT.JCI from the C:\FMS\BIN directory to designer libraries directory (MGXLIBS) and change the file extension to DLL (i.e., MGXFNT.DLL).
  2. By default, the MGXLIBS directory is located under C:\WINDOWS; however, you should copy the file in the same directory that is pointed to by the Libraries parameter in the Micrografx section of the WIN.INI (e.g., Libraries=C:\WINDOWS\MGXLIBS).

SOURCE: Just installed Micrografx Picture Publisher

I had the same message trying vista. Windows 7 offers running older programs in XP or even Win 98 SE mode. That fixed the problem for me. Further I recommend running it as administrator. Hope it helps.

You may need 5d or 6D to be compatible with windows 7 or 8. Check with your authorized Viking dealer for upgrade options.

I had the identical problem on a netbook whose OS was WinXP Lite. The solution that worked for me was to reinstall the OS, this time using the full WinXP. Thereafter no problem.

Micrografx Designer 3.1 remains an excellent drawing program that was designed for Win 3.1 but works fine under Win XP, but not Win 7.

Close Designer 9.
Open the folder containing the 'DSF' file.
Try to copy the file into a different folder, or onto a USB memory-stick.
Do you still get the same error-message?
If so, then the problem is that your disk-drive has a problem;
your problem is _not_ a problem with the Designer 9 software.

Your disk-drive could be "dying". Backup all your important files.
Consider replacing the disk-drive, before it COMPLETELY fails.

Can you convert micrografix draw files to another file format

Each Micrografx Designer 3.1 *.drw file should hold one page of drawings, and that one page should be at page 1 in the Micrgrafx layout.

Corel Designer Technical Suite X5 has a free 30-day trial period. This program will import a Micrografx Designer *.drw file and let you SAVE AS or EXPORT AS an *.svg file.

Many current drawing programs, e.g., Visio, can import this *.svg file and let you save as a *.vsd file.

But if your *.drw file contained many pages of drawings, your converted file will have many pages of drawings but often in a single large page that you cannot edit. So safer to start out with *.drw files that each contain one page, and that one page should be drawn at page 1 within Micrografx Designer.

I have used the above method to convert very old Micrografx Designer 3.1 *.drw files to Visio *.vsd files. One problem was the Greek letters that were italics in the *.drw file are not italics in the *.vsd file.

3D was intended to be used on XP and also worked for some time on Vista with the proper manipulation of updates. I don't believe that it will work at all on Windows 7.

4D does work on both Vista and Windows 7. It does need the latest update for Windows 7.

Transfer diamond Monogram program to floppy disk

Put the floppy disk in your computer and look at the files that are on the disk using windows explorer. If the names have common file extensions such as .hus, .vip, .vp3, .pes or the like, the files are in the wrong format for the machine to read. For the Designer 1, you must have them in .shv format. The floppy should contain 4 menu files and a couple of extras that you won't know about but they are still important for the machine to read the disk.
