002 Rack Needs Repair

Hey, Fixya Folks.
I have an 002 rack that has been diagnosed with blown firewire ports. It came to me this way through an EBay sale & I'm not happy about that, but I'm stuck with having to repair it. I contacted a repair shop in NYC (I'm in North New Jersey) but they want 110.00 to evaluate it & won't tell me what the cost would be if this is actually the problem. My questions are:
Does anyone have a suggestion as to a repair shop that will give me an estimate?
Is this something I can fix myself (I'm capable if the parts are available)?
Has anyone had experience with repairing this ailment?
Thanks for any & all help.
Cayce

I also have the same problemĀ
One port is out the other is failing...

I have replaced the power supply...
Digi told me to look inside at the lights on the firewire card

One of them was off now the other I believe if failing...
They told me to take it to an authorized reapir shop and get new firewire....

I have yet to find a shop or a price on a card. They quoted me if belive about 200

If anyone has any more info on this please post here...

Musicians Custom Electronics in Chicago can repair it. Their number is 708 755 6960. Usually $300 or less. Good luck!

Can i use the 002 rack as a standalone mixer without pro tools running

Unlike some RME products, the 002 rack has no ability to run as a standalone mixer. All routing/mixing is controlled via the pro tools software.

Hi i have digi design rack 002 with pro tools le

Try the other port on the 002. If that doesnt work, I recommend trying the 002 on a computer that does have 400 to see if it will connect then.

If it doesnt, then you may have a couple blown firewire chips inside your 002. It happens, and can be fixed.

Firewire problem

this sounds like you could have blown the firewire port on the mac, this can happen if you plug in and out, even though it is supposed to be hot swappable. if nothing shows up on the firewire port but does show up on other ports on other computers then that could be the problem. its back to base with apple for a repair.

Macbook pro does not detect digi 002 rack

yeah i have an intel imac and had the same problem. I upgraded to pt le 7.4 and now pro tools recognizes the 002 rack and it works fine, but still the core audio manager does not recognize the hardware. It says in "use" when I first turn on the 002 rack, then it says not connected after about 20 seconds. I don't think this really matters though because I have beeen able to do everything fine without having the core audio managr recognizing the 002 rack. I hope that helps

Hey -

Unplugging the harness and reconnecting only worked for a couple days. It turned out that I had to call digidesign and they sent me a new power harness for free. That fixed it for me.
