002 Rack Needs Repair

Hey, Fixya Folks.
I have an 002 rack that has been diagnosed with blown firewire ports. It came to me this way through an EBay sale & I'm not happy about that, but I'm stuck with having to repair it. I contacted a repair shop in NYC (I'm in North New Jersey) but they want 110.00 to evaluate it & won't tell me what the cost would be if this is actually the problem. My questions are:
Does anyone have a suggestion as to a repair shop that will give me an estimate?
Is this something I can fix myself (I'm capable if the parts are available)?
Has anyone had experience with repairing this ailment?
