Hello,
I recently purchased a Gateway Solo 9100XL w/DVD-ROM option.
Yesterday I attemtped to use the DVD-ROM for the first time. to my surprise
the drive failed to read the DVD in placed in it. Believeing it to be some
error on my part or more simply a defective DVD I placed another in the
drive and it also failed to be read.
I know the DVD works..., well at least it does read CDs but not DVDs.
I assume this to be simply due to my ignorance in the realm of DVD. I ask
for any and all help any of you may offer before I place a call to Gateway.
Thank you in advance.
Greg.

Greg,
I also just got a 9100XL with DVD. After receiving the machine, I set up an
NT partition and a Windows 95/98 partition. This meant reloading Windows 95.
I reinstalled the driver for the DVD (called "DVD Play"), but I had no luck
getting it to see a DVD disk. It turns out that I had to amnually install
the c-Cube DIVA driver (MPEG2 hardware decoder) from the system CD. Once I
did that, it worked. but I had no sound. I had to go into the multimedia
from Control Panel and put a check mark in the box for zoomed video. All
worked well until I "upgraded" to Win98. Then there was no way I could get
sound from the DVD. I called Gateway tech support and it turns out that I
had to remove the plug and play Win98 driver for the Yamaha sound card and
install the Win95 driver. This is the only one that works with the Cyber
9397/C-Cube Diva/Yamaha combination.
Hope all this helps you as you try to get yours working OK.
Cheers!

I had a problem viewing DVD movies. After reading the manual, it turned out
to be a procedural error on my part. The DVD player must be started first,
then the disk is loaded. Also, the disk must be perfectly aligned or it
won't be read. Hope this helps.
