Question about HP Photosmart 3310 Printer

Won't power up

Several of the color ink cartridges were near empty so I was using the override to print black only until I could get the new cartridges. Now the printer won't even power up although the green power LED is on on the back of the unit. I touch the "Power" button and nothing happens.

I have the exact same problem. A few color cartridges were about to expire.

And now, out of the blue, the printer refuses to power up.

Indeed the power supply's led is green - I even check with a multimeyer that power is being sent through the machine (I completely opened it up).
Customer support told me that the power supply was probably broke and that there was no other option then.. buying a new one.

Somewhere on the motherboard is a battery. I removed it for about 10 minutes, but with no luck.

My Pinnacle Pro 901 is set to print using black ink only but it keeps telling me I need to replace color cartridges and won't print.

You won't be able to print if one of the cartridges is out of ink. The printer needs all cartridges with sufficient ink levels to prevent damaging the printhead.

Every time a cartridge is replaced, all colors are primed simultaneously thus the need for all cartridges to have ink.

I have enough black ink to print a few pages in black, but the printer won't print. What do I do?

I had a Epson printer that would not print or even allow me to use the scanner because the colored ink was out. Even though I had full black ink, it still would not let me print until i replaced the colored ink.

My color ink jet is empty--I have put a new black cartridge in, and want to print only in black but cannot override the printer saying the color one is empty--I need to print stuff for work-how do I do...

with that printer you have to have both cartridges in the printer if you have the old color cartridges put it in and see if that works but more the likely you are gonna have to buy a new color cartridge

Printer will not print dut to other color cartige. being empty.

The color cartridges print text that appears black by mixing the three primary colors (cyan, magenta, and yellow) to make composite black. To achieve a realistic black, large quantities of colored ink are used. Because black cartridges use much less ink to create a similar shade of black, they print more pages in black than the color cartridge.
If the color cartridges on the printer are next to empty, you will not be able to get perfect prints at all.

Please have the cartridges replaced to do the printing jobs again.

How do i replace cartridge

On the right hand side of your machine-FRONT-right there is a panel that should have come with a sticker on it, you may have taken the sticker off so anyway, it is the ONLY panel on the front right side it just pulls down, put your finger on the rigth side of the machine yhou will feel a little indent and then pull it down, and there are your four ink cartridges. Each cartridge must be replaced individually and on the bottom of the panel you pulled down it will be labeled (B for Black, Y for Yellow, C for Cyan and M for Magenta, and each print cartrdige should also be colored to make it easier as well). Anyhow, you pull the little plastic purple tab that is covering each ink cartridge (in the machine) forward towards you and it should release the cartridge for you to pull out and dispose of) every now and then I have a little trouble and need to use something to help me get started pulling a cartridge forward-just like the tip of a pen or something but you should have no problem with this, and then you put the new cartridge in-the way it says-there should be an arrow on it showing you which way to put it in (also look as you pull the old one out) and as you push the new one in, the plastic tab will click shut and you will hear a "'spray sound". When you are done, close the cover and the machine will first do a "cleaning" before it is ready to be used again. Here is a tip for you as well, this machine WILL NOT WORK if you have any empty ink cartridges, they ALL must have some ink in them for you to print anything, even if you just want to use black, you have to color cartridges as well, I try to use every last bit of color before replacing a cartrdige, I wait until IT MAKES ME REPLACE IT by saying "empty black cartrdige" before I replace it "near empty" is NOT ENOUGH to replace it, mine has been saying "near empty magenta" for weeks now and it still works fine, it just wants me to replace with a new one and waste more money as this ink IS VERY EXPENSIVE, it cost me over $75 to replace all four ink cartridges, the best deal is to get the combo pack with all the colors, or the one with the three colors and then the double black pack. some colors will obviously get used quicker than other colors, so like I said, I have been waiting to replace that "near empty magenta" UNTIL I HAVE TO, as it hs been telling me to do so for weeks now, and I have a replacment in the drawer but once I replace it, it is like throwing money in the garbage since the one that is near empty, is FINE sitting in there while I PRINT OUT BLACK AND WHITE COPIES most of the time anyway, it just won't let you print if ANY of the cartrdiges are ACTUALLY EMPTY, even if you are not using that color, you still cannot have an empty cartrdige or NO cartridge in the machine, it just WIL NOT WORK. GOOD LUCK.

Colour Ink Jet Cartridges emptying during a black ink print run

Hi,
If you go to your printer properties, there should be a setting whereby you have to select the option to "PRINT USING BLACK CARTRIDGE ONLY". Make sure this option is selected, otherwise your printer will use ALL colors even if you only print black.
Let me know if you need any further assistance.
Best wishes,
Graemevm

Print cartridges

  1. When one or more ink cartridges are empty, for example, Black, the LCD shows “Ink Empty Black” and “Open Cover.” Close the printer’s document support and the document tray.
  2. Lift the top cover to the open position until it locks securely into place.
  3. Pull the ink cartridge hook toward the front of the printer and remove the color ink cartridge displayed on the LCD. Place the cartridge in a plastic bag as it may still contain some residual ink and may leak.
  4. Open the new ink cartridge bag for the color shown on the LCD and remove the new ink cartridge. The cartridge cover may come off when you open the bag. This is not uncommon and will not damage the cartridge.
  5. Each color has its own correct position that is clearly labeled and color coded inside the printer. Keep the ink cartridge in an upright position when you insert it into slot. It will only fit in the correct direction. Press down on the ink cartridge until the hook snaps over it.
  6. If you replaced an ink cartridge while “Near Empty” was displayed on the LCD, the LCD may ask you to verify that the replacement cartridge was brand new one. Example: “Did You Change Black? 1.Yes 2.No.” For each new cartridge you installed, press 1 on the dial pad to automatically reset the ink dot counter for that color. If the ink cartridge you installed is not a brand-new one, select 2.

PRINTING WITH BLACK INK CARTRIDGE ONLY; COLORED CARTRIDGE IS EMPTY.

Apparently, if you hold the "resume button" (the one next to the power button) for about five seconds after you get the message saying to replace the color ink cartridge the machine starts printing. I did this after I went to "maintenance" under "preferences" and changed ink to "black only." At first that alone did not work, but after trying the resume button for 5 secs it worked okay.

Ink cartridge light keeps blinking

you need to print only in black if that is all the ink you have, and also you need to remove the color cartridge as it still registers in the printer as able to be used, although it is empty or near so. Did you remove the tape over the print head fron the new ink cartridge? Do a print head alignment, or use the toolbox icon to tell the printer that you just replaced the cartridge. Some HP models chip the ink cartridges so even a refill wont register as a full tank and the printer wont print. chip needs to be reset (difficult) or just replaced with a new cartridge.

Only printing black and cyan

If you have used third party carts before you can't repair this problem due to the fact that the filter inside the printhead is clogged with particles. There is no chance to clean the filter. Sorry. Do use only dye ink. Pigmented ink is the printhead killer for brother printers!
