Question about PC Desktops

1 Answer

I bought a new computer and my existing Samsung 24 inch flat screen monitor doesn't work with it. I see 6 buttons on the front of my monitor but I don't know how they work. Unfortunately, if a manual came with the monitor I don't have it. NOTE: This monitor works fine with my "old" Dell Latitudes computer which uses an analog cable to the monitor. This monitor does not work with my "new" Dell XPS 630i computer which uses a digital cable. Can you tell me if I need to change some setting on the monitor to get it to work with the new computer, and if so, how do I work the buttons on the monitor to change settings??

If you have the (white connectors) DVI cable correctly plugged into the computer, when you turn the computer on, it should recognize it and make the needed changes automatically. Maybe not if the PC was already on even though it's plug&play.

If you have the model number of the monitor, you can google for the manual.

Does not turn on

Hello

With any monitor, check the following to determine if the issue is MONITOR related or COMPUTER related.

1. Verify the monitor is receiving power - use a known good power outlet and plug it into the monitor

2. Samsung monitors have a light on the power button - are you getting any color light from this? Orange means it is in "stand by" mode and is waiting for the PC to send it a signal. Green means the monitor is getting a signal from the PC and the monitor is on.

3. With the monitor on, press the buttons on the monitor to bring up the OSD (on screen display) that changes the monitor settings. If you have a green light on the power button and press one of these buttons (AUTO works best), this will display the monitor adjustment options on the screen.

If you see the on screen adjustments, your monitor is working and the issue may be with your PC. Move the monitor to another PC and verify the monitor is working correctly.

IF you don't see anything on the screen and the power light is green, the monitor has failed.

This could be the lights that illuminate the screen have failed (something that happened to my Samsung Syncmaster monitors after about 6 years of use) or the screen has stopped functioning. In either case, replacement parts are hard to find and a monitor swap is likely.

HDMi screen doesn't turn on

First, remove your HDMI-cable from your monitor and pc, then plug it back in.

If this doesn't work, go to your desktop and press your right-mouse button at an empty space and then select resolution. Then press detect.

I hope this works.

24" DOA Soyo Monitor

What size monitor were you using before? If you were using a smaller monitor and everything was fine maybe this new monitor is out of range for the graphics card. I've found that not all graphics cards, especially older ones, will not run a monitor as large as 24 inches. If you can, connect this new 24 inch monitor to a computer with a more powerful graphics card. If it works then you will know that the problem is with your computer. Also connect your old monitor and go into control panel and see what range and resolution your graphics card will support. You may need a more powerful card to run the new monitor.

HP Flat Panel Monitor is dead!

The power supply within the monitor has probably expired. HP doesn't do spare parts for their TFT monitors as they are Full Unit Replacement items (if in warranty).
