Hi, I have a Samsung HCM422W projection Televison and my convergance is not properly adjusting. It will not allow the red to fully adjust. Along with that it seems like the picture is kinda concave. Im...

MOST LIKELY, if convergence will not adjust in some part of the screen and or is bowed looking:

You need to locate the two convergence chips (usually STK-392-020 OR -040 THAT this set should use.

Most of these smaller Samsung sets they are located on a small circuit board mounted above the main boards--see photo of typical chip---should be two side by side.

If they are not located on that separate board, it will be much harder to remove/ replace them.

If the photo or this information helped you rate this solution as very helpful as I do this here for free.

THIS IS A TYPICAL CONVERGENCE CHIP--YOURS WILL HAVE A DIFFERENT NUMBER LIKE STK-392-040 OR -020.

TOTAL PARTS COST ON EBAY WOULD BE UNDER 20 DOLLARS.

Tv looks like the edegs curve and is blury

This sounds like convergence output IC problem. convergence board would have to be removed - remove and replace 2 STK IC's and check the surrounding resistors. Shops usually $200-$400 Be sure to vote/rate me if this helped Thanks!

Picture looks curved on screen not flat and straight across. Images have pink and green streaks on them. We lined up the convergence as best we could but its not perfect and the screen still looks curved.

Try adjusting the convergence. If it won't move see below- (or hitting Magic Focus for some Hitachi’s)

Convergence Board (I hope)

check this out I have the same problem check your solder spot make sure the solder points are not touching one another, that could be one of the reason is doing this or just to make sure you can desolder the stk chips clean the holes where the pins go trough the board and power the tv with board and if the tv start fine if could be bad stk chips be very careful when desoldering or soldering good luck about another is not worth it they cost too much around 350-450

Hi,

Hitachi Convergence

Check out the Convergence Gallery. If you see the colored outlines or color shading as in the Gallery, you have a convergence problem.

The repair for a Hitachi requires the replacement of the defective IC or ICs and any damaged or smoked resistors. Some models don't have a separate convergence board and the board is not usually available for the ones that do have a separate convergence board. Usually there is little alignment required after the repair. If you play with all the adjustments before the fix, hours may be spent re-aligning.

If you change the original ICs with substitute "new and improved" parts that are talked about in the blogs, you will probably create problems. Use the original ICs and resistors.

Don't monkey with it.

This is a delicate and difficult repair. If not done by someone with some electronic repair experience, the TV will likely end up as junk or cost considerably more for a tech to fix the damage done.

If you live in Calgary, call me. If elsewhere, find a competent tech.

Hi, Yes! the convergance board can stop the unit from coming On. No need to change the board, just change the ICs. This is what it looks like, you will have to remove the board from the unit take note of the wires before removing them, -794a500.jpg
