  • Choose where to put your new amp. If you are installing subwoofers it's usually best to put the amplifier in the trunk next to or attached to your subwoofer enclosure. If you are going to power your main car speakers with the amplifier then it may be better to put the amp under the passenger's seat.

  • 2

Purchase the following wiring for the amp: A thick power cable (the thickness required depends on the total wattage of your amp, ask a sales rep or consult your amplifier's manual for the proper gauge) that will have to reach from your battery to the amp (the power cable should also have an inline fuse to protect the amplifier); 3 feet of ground cable of equal thickness as the power cable; an RCA signal cable to carry the left and right signals from your head unit to the amp; a "remote on" wire which can be any thin wire (20 to 24 gauge) that will also run from the head unit to the amp; speaker wire (if you are powering subwoofers you should only need about 3 feet of 12-gauge wire per sub, if you're going to power your main speakers you will need enough 16-gauge wire to reach each speaker from the amp, 12 feet per speaker is usually safe).

  • 3

Gather the following tools: Screwdrivers, wire cutters, wire strippers, pliers, a utility knife, sandpaper, masking tape with a pen for labeling, 2 crimp-on o-ring ends for the power and ground cables. If you're hooking the amp to your speakers, you'll also need 2 crimp-on female spade connectors for each speaker.

  • 4

Find a manual with instructions on taking off the dash of your car (not the whole dash--just the head unit, in order to hook wires to the back), and also to get at your car's speakers if you are hooking the amp to them.
    The Installation

  • 1

Disconnect the ground (negative) cable from your battery. Never work on the electrical system of your car with this connected.

  • 2

Attach the side with the fuse of the thick positive (+/red) power cable to the connector on the positive terminal of your battery; the o-ring can be sandwiched in the bolt on the connector that connects your car to the battery. Now put the fuse in the fuse holder.

  • 3

Run the power cable through the firewall of your car (there is usually an opening on the driver's side) and to your amplifier. If your amp is in the back it is usually best to run this wire under the plastic molding that goes along the bottom edge of your car. Be careful where you run the wire because the power cables should never be near the signal or speaker wires.

  • 4

Find a metal bolt or screw on the metal of your car near the amp to connect the ground cable to. This should be as close to the amp as possible, never more than 3 feet. Unscrew it and clean the metal surface with sandpaper. Attach the ground to it with the o-ring and screw it back down firmly.

  • 5

Remove your head unit and run the signal and remote on wires from behind the head unit to your amp. Connect the RCA connectors and the remote on wire to the back of your head unit.

  • 6

(If you are installing subwoofers and not running your normal speakers off the amplifier skip to step 7.) Run the 16-gauge wire from each one of your speakers to the amplifier. On the amp side use the masking tape to label each wire so you know which speaker it is. On the speaker end-strip a 1/4 inch off the ends of the wires and crimp on the female spade connectors with your pliers. Connect the spade connectors to your speakers making sure to match the positive (+/red or white) with the positive terminal and the negative (-/black) with the negative one.

  • 7

Connect everything to your amplifier. Only strip off as much as you need off the end of each wire to make a solid connection, you don't want any exposed wire hanging out. If you have subs, attach them to the amp with the 12-gauge speaker wire.

  • 8

Secure your amp to something. If it is in the back you can screw it directly to your subwoofer enclosure. If it is under a seat you may just want to get some straps that hold it down.

  • 9

Reconnect your car's negative cable to the battery. Test your system and make sure everything works, going around to see that every speaker is on before you put everything back together

What can be connected to te audio output jacks on the back of this set?

You didn't include make and model TV; so only generalized answers are possible.

Typical RCA phono jacks like those shown in the blue box of the stereo amplifier below:

25998201-ac5bgneb45fvu53muoueauti-3-0.jpg will accept cables to connect to other audio devices. The audio RCA jacks are color coded RED (right) and WHITE (left) for low level stereo signals. Some have YELLOW jacks for Standard Definition video, ORANGE jacks for AC3 Digital audio and newer amps have HDMI jacks.

Connect the TV's audio OUTPUT jacks and a stereo pair of unused audio INPUT jacks on the amplifier with cables that have ends that match each. Turn on the stereo & TV and select the input on the amplifier that matches the stereo pair of inputs you used to connect to the TV. Adjust the volume to hear the audio over your stereo system's speakers.

Use the HDMI or AC3 sources for superior audio - including 5.1 (or better) Dobly Digital when possible. Otherwise, a standard 2 channel stereo program will be heard.

I hope this helps & good luck!

I have a stock stereo and two subs with an amp in the trunk. Also two alpine speakers in the rear. Whenever I turn my balance to the left my subs don't play. What's wrong?

Hello.... I am sorry to hear you are having problems. The reason for this is that since you have a stock stereo, the shop (or person) whom installed the amp and subs used a line out converter. What this part does is allows the connection of RCA cables to the factory head unit. Almost all bass signals are always in stereo, so since you were only hooking an amplifier for just subs, you can actually just connect to just one of the rear speakers instead of connecting to the right and left. Just makes the install a little quicker. There is nothing wrong with this as I usually do the same thing in our shop. However, if you are going to be using the balance control, then you will need to go back to the shop and have them hook the converter up in stereo (to both rear speakers). Hope this helps!

I have an eq tis performance teknique icbn/-5eq 5.1 channel pre-amplifer, i need help to how to connect to the stereo

Your amp needs to be connected to your stereo via rca to the rca jacks in the back of the stereo then connect the remote wire to the remote wire in the back of your stereo it should be blue with a remote flag on it. after that you need to ground the amp and run a wire to the positive terminal on the battery. make sure you install a fuse on the wire in between the battery and the amp.

I have a Fender G-DEC Guitar amp and it has an output for recording, can I connect it to the BOSS MICRO guitar input? The Fender amp has many rhythm functions which I am very familar with, besides it has...

you can use the line in/mic stereo input, but you will have to turn the input level way down to around 1 or 2.

i assume that the record outputd a re rca outs. you can get a rca stereo to 1/8 inch stereo adapter, like the ones they use to connect protable cd palyers to recievers, and then get a 1/8 inch stereo to 1/4 inch stereo adapter form radio shack to complete the connection.

Amps ? stereo intergrated amps ?

Since the mixer has a line level output, yes you can use a home stereo for the "AMP". Use the AUX IN, TAPE IN or CD IN on the stereo and connect the speakers as you normally would.

My jbl stereo wont turn on. when i turn my truck on it just lights up and then goes straight back off

    Hi there Willieulin.
I wonder if the speakerwires are shorting the amp in the JBL stereo!
One or more speakers could be blown......
The protection circuit is most likely doing its job, protecting your stereosystem from damage.
If you have a extra amp connected to the stereo, check if it is wired right.
Try to turn the ignition key "only" so the lights on the stereo turn on. If you turn it further so you start the engine it most likely turns the stereo off.
If that happens the powerwires to the stereo are wrongly connected.
    Luck with the problem.

Trouble connecting marine amp to stereo

    Hello lizskates814,

You can use either the high level (speaker) or the low-level (RCA's) inputs to the amp, but not both. Choose whichever one sounds the best or is more convenient to install and leave the other disconnected.

    Hope this helps.

    Car stereo pre-out signal noise

Two things, a ground loop isolator in-line with the RCA's between the head unit and the first amp.....also a noise reducing capacitor ( $5 or$6 at an auto parts store) on the alternator 12v post will reduce or remove the hum.

Ok, I am assuming this is the 600 watt amplifier?

    DISCONNECT YOUR BATTERY!!

    Supplies needed:
    - 8 Gauge power wire (long enough to run from your battery to the amp placement) WITH an inline fuse!!
    - Depending on your stereo (if it has amp pre-outs or not) you will either need RCA cables (long enough to reach your amp from your stereo) OR a Line-Out converter AND RCA cables.
    - The power lead that connects to your "REMOTE" line on your stereo (long enough to reach from amp to stereo - usually blue)
    - A good ground wire ( long enough to reach a metal part of your car from the amp)

    ======================================================================
STEP 1: Find a spot to run the power wire from your battery - through your firewall and into your car - and then to your amp. (DO NOT CONNECT IT TO ANYTHING YET)
STEP 2: Remove your car stereo and look to see if you have PRE-AMP outs (RCA connectors for an amp on the rear of the unit)
A- if you do, GREAT.. proceed to step 3
B- if you don't.. you will need to get a LINE-OUT CONVERTER - what this does is converts the higher signals from your standard wires on your radio, to RCA style wires to connect to your amp.
B2- you will also want to buy a wiring harness kit for your stereo, unless you want to hack away at your factory wires.. (not recommended) - connect the harness kit to your factory wire harness, wire in your leads for the output converter, and run the other end to your stereo.*
*you will need to know which wires run to the speakers you plan to power with the amplifier
B3 - once the converter is properly connected - proceed to step 3
STEP 3: Plug the RCA cables into the stereo or converter, and run them properly from behind your radio to the amp but DO NOT CONNECT THEM YET.
STEP 4: Connect the REMOTE wire from your stereo to the same wire for your amp . (this enables the amp to turn on/off with your radio.. otherwise.. you will have alot of dead batteries)
STEP 5: re-install your stereo into the car.
STEP 6: Connect the RCA speakers into the INPUTS on your amp
STEP 7: Connect the REMOTE wire to your amp.
STEP 8: Connect the speaker wire from the OUTPUTS on your amp to the speakers you wish to power
STEP 9: Connect the POWER CABLE to the amp PROPERLY
STEP 10: Connect the GROUND CABLE to a metal part of your car (sheet metal, not just a bolt)
STEP 11: Connect the POWER CABLE to the battery cable
    STEP 12: Re-connect your Battery
STEP 13: Start your car, and test your radio.

If you have any issues from here.. you need to re-check all of your connections.
