It sounds like there is water inside the unit from a recent bout of rain storms. I found no way to empy it - is this going to cause damage to the unit or do i just run it as usual and it will go away?

Our penquin dometic air conditioner in the bedroom pours leaks lots of water when the unit is on during rain storms. Water leaks into the ceiling and also out the unit.

Sounds like base gasket at roof is loose or defective to start with. Try removing ceiling assembly enough to tighten 4 bolts that secure roof unit to inside bracket. Do not compress too much, just snug them all evenly and see if water slows or stops. If not, you will have to remove upper unit (roof) and replace gasket and re-secure but don't tighten to excessive, only compress gasket approx half of original thickness. Also make sure upper unit is aligned properly with opening of roof.

12k BTUs will condense a gallon an hour easily, sounds like the problem is with a probable self-evaporating portion of the condenser. If so either the inner workings of that unit are dirty/malfunctioning or the exhaust duct is not getting proper airflow. If you're mechanically inclined I'd recommend pulling the unit apart and cleaning the condenser parts. If not perhaps try attaching a permanent drain hose to the drain plug. Definitely check the exhaust duct either way.

Sounds like the rain storm could have brought on some capacitor issues. Go to the back of your outside unit and look inside the access panel with the electrical warning sticker on it, if the capacitor is bowed up at the top, it needs to be replaced. If it turns out to be the capacitor, follow this link for a new capacitor replacement kit, it will save you hundreds of more dollars than calling an HVAC repair company to charge you enough to break open your piggy bank. The kit also comes with the proper tools and parts needed as well as detailed instructions on how to replace the part yourself. http://hvacrepairkits.com/index.php/content/article/68
I hope this helps!

First. The unit needs to be tilted back more so the water drains out of it to the lower back of the unit.

Next, make sure the drain hose or hole is not clogged up.

Last,if this never happend before be sure you didnt have any bad wind and rain while you were gone, somtimes a hard driving storm with wind drivin rain can find its way in around the a/c .

Air conditioner won't reset.

If you're trying to reset it right after it trips, you're not giving it enough time for the pressures to equal out.
Also, try again, unplugging it from the wall and waiting about 20 minutes before plugging it back in.
If it got a good surge from the storm, it may have grounded out the compressor.

Water coming out of my top vents......

Go outside and see if you can spot a plug up in the drain tube. Some insects will build nests inside the proper size tube and plug it up so that condensation generated by normal operation is not allowed to drain from the unit. Other times, fungus or algae will cause the plug up.

Your plug up may be internal to the machine as well. This might be relieved by swabing out the plug up from outside by means of a fine flexible cable or weed wacker line - be careful!! Drain lines are often hidden very well requiring great detective skills.

Ac making noise

sounds like the drain is clogged, it usually comes out if the outside of the unit just below the coil in the middle of the back, there may or may not be a hose attached to the front pan below the evaporator, try pressuring it up to blow it out. worst case you may have to remove from the window, disassemble and clean. hope this helps...

Split Unit Spitting water

Do you live in an area of high humidity? This could be your problem. The water that is coming off the evaporator and draining to the outside pan is building up and picked up by the condensor fan and consequently blown by the fan inside. If this is the problem the fix is to drill a hole in the pan to permit the water to drain from the pan. Be careful as to where the hole is drilled so as to not damage any component of the a/c. I would suggest at least a 1/4 inch drill bit be used to make the hole.

Rattling noises and blowing water (goldstar WG5005R)

If the unit is new and tilted enough toward the outside, the rain should not be a factor as far as water blowing out. It will make some rattling noises on the outside more so when its raining or high humidity because the outside fan throws water onto the condenser coil. Sounds like to me that its not draining to the outside.. It shouldn't be dirty enough for the drain paths to be filled with crud. Tilting it more to the outside should fix it. Hope this helps. kstfas
