Question about RCA HD52W59 HDTV Projection Television
My tv was working fine. We shut it off for the night and the next time we tried to power it on it first made a strange popping sound...then the green light came on but a strange dwooooop noise came from the back of the tv and then the tv shut itself off. Now each time I try to turn it on it does the same thing. I haven't heard the popping noise again, just the dwooop noise from the back. I've called RCA they were of no help, except to say that I should call their service center. My warranty is expired (of course) so I am trying to find the most inexpensive way to get this fixed. If its a part that needs to be replaced, its likely we can do this ourselves. Please help. Thanks. (I have to play Rockband soon or life will be meaningless for me...LOL)
I just gave this solution to someone that has the same problem as you, so I hope this helps.
The loud pop you heard was a filter capacitor. The problem now is the power supply is shot, or should I say the capacitor that is connected to that voltage output is blown. You will have to replace it with a new one. I would suggest just for your curiosity, unplug the TV, take the lower panel off (you will need a star head driver to do this) and look at the power supply board (the board on you left side) look towards the middle of the board and you will see a heat sink in the middle of that heat sink you should see a capacitor (or the remains of one). its value is 2200uf 16V (I believe that this is the one that has gone bad), you should also look for others that may have blown also. I would also suggest that you have a qualified TV repair person come to your place and work on this for you, due to the nature of this section of your TV.
If you choose to do this yourself you will find this useful. Get a schematic to find the values the Chassis number I believe is ITC222. Here is a link to the schematic:
I hope this helps,
