It won't play for one of two reasons: 1. There is something inside the DVD player, which keeps it from playing. 2. The DVD player's battery has run out of juice and can no longer play, meaning the player needs to be replaced.
Sometimes portable DVD players allow you to switch to a secondary TV for playback. When this happens it disables the primary screen on the portable DVD player.
Thats usually the culprit as to why that happens.
If you have that feature on your portable DVD player you should check it out.
Try playing a regular CD first and take it out if it played. Then put the DVD and it will play fine because the player just realign its lense.
