Adjustment for defrost control - GE Monogam

I installed a new WR9X502 defrost part in my 8 yr old GE Monogram. The technician said they go out at this age, and suggested I could install it myself (which I did - very easy). However, he did not tell me there is a small adjustment hole that can be rotated clockwise by a screw driver.
Question: How do I know how much to rotate that adjustment?

The solution posted on Jul 26 by 22yooper was helpful, but I need a little more clarification.

When the part was installed the frig would not come on at all until I rotated the clutch head screw slightly clockwise.

My only remaining question is ---how far should it be turned???

Does the rotation of this screw simply select a time of day to defrost - or does it select an interval of time between defrosts??

Thank you very much. Ray Irwin

You should not have to adjust this clutch head screw. And it turns counter clockwise to change the time of defrost.

Sorry about that, it is clockwise.

The screw turns a cam. To begin, the defrost timers are shipped in the defrost position. If you had waited 18-22 minutes after you finished installing the new defrost timer it would have automatically restarted the cooling cycle.

It depends on what method the manufacturer of your refrigerator uses to time the cycles. Some use run time of compressor to determine how often the defrost takes place and some use strictly the time cycle. In any event all things should now be automatic and a defrost cycle will never under normal condition be noticeable.

The WR51X322 Defrost Heater Assembly

could be burned out in your model. Can you look inside the fresh food section and find the model number for me. The answer to the problem on your model depends on having the correct model number so I don't miss other parts that may cause a defrost failure. I know you said Monogram Side by Side but that does not tell me for sure what the Model Number on your refrigerator is. If your model is like the models in the GE Monogram Refrigerator Service Manual the I can have an idea of those parts. Those models have the defrost controls as part of their motherboard and that board does not fail at least in the defrost part of the board. defrost very often. You may need to also test or replace the WR50X10088 Defrost Thermostat I will be here should you have questions Thanks Sea Breeze

The feezer is not that cold and the door feels really hot it is a ge monogram from about 2000

Compressor is building up high head pressure. I'd be looking for another fridge since this is unrepairable in the long run

First I would check the fan in the freezer. Listen to see if it is running
It moves air to the ref from the freezer
Then check to see if freezer control is turned WARMER, which makes the Ref. colder
Also this might be a common Defrost problem, Ice
is not being melted by the defrost system. The fan can't blow through the coils into the fridge.
Take out back panel of freezer to check for ice buildup. The coils should be clean.
There are three components to a defrost system- a heater, heater thermostat, and a timer unless you have a defrost electronic card.
Its best handled by a Technician but you could possibly do it by taking your model number to the nearest appliance parts store and asking for the parts. They are mostly located in freezer ,behind back panel on freezer coils.except the card which is usually located in ref The parts store will have info
Also check fan undernearh Ref in the rear
Clean condenser coils underneath
Check cold control (thats where you turn it colder)

Seems to me that might be a clogged defrost drain or maybe a dripping water valve. Doing that. I have the service manual with nice pictures in it that show clearly how to access the components.

GE Monogram will not accept freezer/fridge

Turns out the problem was because we didn't shut the freezer door tightly. The temperature re4set itself in about three hours. All OK and no expense :-)
